Memorial Day reservations???

We are scheduled to pick up our new motorhome this Friday. We HAD reservations for Camp Taylor in NJ. They don't take credit cards. You have to send a check. Well my husband sent it from bill pay instead of just writing one out and mailing it. I called them and advised that it was on the way, what had happened as to why it would take longer, but that we were definitely coming. They said no problem. I show the check has been sent from my bank. They did not receive it today and flat cancelled my reservation. I called within 10 minutes of getting the email and they had filled my spot. SO, now I find myself with the pleasure of finding somewhere to go for our first outing, which happens to be Memorial Day. We are looking to pretty much just hang out so we can get acquainted with the new rig. Any suggestions of maybe larger places that might have an opening at this late date?

Picking up and heading out on an adventure the same day, is quite the undertaking. I've done it, but had 2 days to transfer and load up for week 1100miles away. Luckily all went well. To do over, I would spend a night or 2 at home first. Best advice, start calling and put yourself on a waiting list if they have one.

We are actually picking it up this weekend and then HOPING to go somewhere for Memorial Day weekend, which is the following weekend. Good idea with the camping in driveway and getting it set up. I had really wanted to go somewhere, but had a feeling that would be pushing it.

I would burn up the CPU in my phone dialing every CG for two hundred miles.

State park, sites first come?

try a state or county park, sometimes they have sites that are not able to be reserved and are just first come/first serve only. In NC I have just shown up earlier in the week and parked my trailer there for a couple extra days (paid the extra nights) to ensure I got a spot.

Thank you for parking your rig there! It the rig is there, you do not have to be.

In my local SP's I have seen people setup tents on site as per the rules something to the effect of: setup living quarters and then go register...

I have also seen in local SP's where to qualify, the hosts allow people get away with putting up chairs on-site etc... Argh... (Hosts cannot realistically run out and check at that moment of registration)

One holiday weekend, I found a nice pull-thru site, when pulling in, I was confronted with a store/display model tent in the lane. I am talking Barbie doll size. Come on... I laughed at that one, but BS, none the less.

The problem any more is folks will reserve site for the whole year and maybe show up a couple of times. Its these folks that make it hard for folks to get a site any time. Later RJD
