Must do things in Pigeon Forge TN

Looking for some must do things or must see things in Pigeon Forge. The DW and I are staying at Camp Rivers Landing at the end of April for a week. Please let us know ideas of what to do as we have never been there before. Also any info on Camp Rivers Landing would be helpful.

Locals will try to tell you to eat at the Old Mill restaurant. Don't. We waited 90 minutes for a table only to find out that the food was just horrible. I'm not kidding when I said is was about on par with a hospital cafeteria. Plenty of GREAT places to eat down there. I just love No Way Jose's and Dick's Last Resort is always fun, if you have a thick skin.

We had a really good time at the Lumberjack dinner show.

Also X2 on Cades Cove in the park.

One last thing... Go to Gatlinburg. Park at the garage when you first get in to town. Take the trolley all the way up to the other end, and spend a wonderful evening walking back down. There are some really neat shops and stuff on the main drag there.

That is not one of my favorite places to go, but it's close and the family likes to go, so I go along about once a year. There are just too many people there and I like people, but not that many in that small of a space.

The weather in April is "iffy". It might be 80, or it might be 40. Be prepared either way. We like to go to Cades Cove at least every other trip. Go early for the wildlife out and about. Walk through downtown Gatlinburg and check out the small shops. I'm NOT a shopper, but DH is. I still enjoy the shops. If you are into country music, many of the music places are great for an evenings' entertainment. Dixie Stampede is pricey, but it's always a good show, if kinda corny.

We enjoyed riding the chairlift up the mountain and the tram up to the ski lodge.

There is just so very much to do in the area that it's hard to name them all.

According to TripAdvisor, the top 10 things to do in the area are:
1. Sugarlands Distillery
2. Ripley's Aquarium
3. Tn Homemade Wines
4. Old Smoky Moonshine
5. Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook
6. Alewine Pottery
7. Sugarland Cellars Winery
8. Gatlinburg Skylift
9. The Village Shops
10. Gatlinburg Trail

So, I guess if you are a drinker that likes to shop, look at fish and ride up the mountain, you are going to be in Hog Heaven!!

Whatever you find to do, have a good time and spend lots of money. The area needs you to spend money in order to recover from the fires that occurred in the late fall.

Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Show is very good, especially if you like Bluegrass music.

The food is close to the same for all of the dinner shows. Just have a good time.

On your way into town, stop at the Department of Tourism (1950 Parkway, Pigeon Forge, TN 37863). They have discounts to some of the museums and shows and can give you times and a little background on each. Park and take the trolley. It is much better than trying to drive everywhere. If you park behind the Old Mill Restaurant, at the Trolley Office (186 Old Mill Ave), you can take a trolley to just about anywhere. It is cheap and runs plenty often. If you need directions, just ask at the Tourism or Trolley Offices.

Visit Townsend, Cade's Cove, go across the park to Cherokee if you like casinos. Check out cataloochie valley, take the craft tour in Gatlinburg, plenty to entertain kiddoes both young and old. I enjoy the old mill restaurant even with the long wait. We usually spend our time in and around Townsend and Wears Valley

We did the 5 winery self guided tour. Any of the 5 wineries will have details. You get gifts visiting the wineries and sampling their wines.

If you like to hike, Great Smoky Mountain National Park has hikes for all ages and abilities! We live nearby and would recommend Dollywood for one day, spend 2-3 days in the Park. Visit Cade's Cove, the Roaring Fork drive, Newfound Gap, and the park's Sugarland Visitor Center.

https://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/roaringfork.htm

The craft circle drive outside Gatlinburg is worthwhile.

I don't care for the touristy attractions like dinner shows, pancake restaurants, Titantic replicas, etc which are in PF.

Have a great time!

Go white water kayaking or rafting on the Pigeon. Then go to the bars and wineries. Spend lots of money in G-burg and P. Forge. They are trying to rebuild after last years devastating fire there. Need all the help you/we can provide!

BEST Show >> Opry, Dixie Stampede is real good too.. both on expensive side but you best to get combination tickets and get 2 shows or more for less.. Comedy Barn is good!
Walk to Laurel Fall.. not far nor overly strenuous.. nice falls and walk in the NP! Also stop and visit sugarlands welcome center.. watch the free short movie.. Cades Cove best very early in am and then just before sunset.. see more animals about.. Like to see Black Bear n cubs take the Hyatt Lane.. off Cades Cove.. Another good place is Gatlinburg on the Roaring Fork road.. again best chances to see them is last few hours of the day. Dollywood OK but in recent times have catered to water and roller coaster rides .. just a few short shows and check whats on for the day before buy tickets.
You can enjoy a nice vacation in the smokies.

That use to be Twin Mountain campground, been there many times. Old Mill Restaurant is a great place to eat breakfast. About a quarter mile from the campground is Log Cabin Pancake House, another great place to have breakfast at. Check out the Apple Barn, the apple turnovers with ice cream are great or the apple dumplings are great too. They have a great restaurant there to. Oh I forgot the trolley makes two stops in the campground. You can take to the trolley to Patriot Park and then change trolley's and go anywhere. There is a lot of good places to eat at. Cade's Cove is nice just a little crowded. You can always park the vehicle there and walk around, it's only 11 miles around. If you want to visit a cool place visit Cataloochee and see free roaming elk. If you have four wheel drive when you visit Cade's Cove you can drive Parson's Branch Rd and when you you get outside the Park take a left and go to Deals Gap, Tail of the Dragon. Favorite place for motorcycles to ride. Traffic is always bad in Pigeon Forge but you can get on Veteran Blvd and easy going

If you go over the Smokies using Newfound Gap take in Clingman Dome, the highest point in the mountains....the half mile walk from the parking lot to the top is a little tough but there's benches along the way to rest.
