That is not one of my favorite places to go, but it's close and the family likes to go, so I go along about once a year. There are just too many people there and I like people, but not that many in that small of a space.
The weather in April is "iffy". It might be 80, or it might be 40. Be prepared either way. We like to go to Cades Cove at least every other trip. Go early for the wildlife out and about. Walk through downtown Gatlinburg and check out the small shops. I'm NOT a shopper, but DH is. I still enjoy the shops. If you are into country music, many of the music places are great for an evenings' entertainment. Dixie Stampede is pricey, but it's always a good show, if kinda corny.
We enjoyed riding the chairlift up the mountain and the tram up to the ski lodge.
There is just so very much to do in the area that it's hard to name them all.
According to TripAdvisor, the top 10 things to do in the area are:
1. Sugarlands Distillery
2. Ripley's Aquarium
3. Tn Homemade Wines
4. Old Smoky Moonshine
5. Gatlinburg Scenic Overlook
6. Alewine Pottery
7. Sugarland Cellars Winery
8. Gatlinburg Skylift
9. The Village Shops
10. Gatlinburg Trail
So, I guess if you are a drinker that likes to shop, look at fish and ride up the mountain, you are going to be in Hog Heaven!!
Whatever you find to do, have a good time and spend lots of money. The area needs you to spend money in order to recover from the fires that occurred in the late fall.
