If you come in on I-40, the North Carolina/Tennessee line has the best whitewater rafting around these parts. It's like exit 437 in NC on 40. There are several vendors there to take you on the Pigeon river. The power company releases controlled water for the river rafting. We go every year! Randy

We went to both last summer and I highly recommend them, just wish we had more time at Dollywood as the day we were there the weather turned bad and a tornado was just a few miles away. We bought our tickets to everything 4 months in advance.

How late in the fall have you stayed? Planning on stopping by in late November, but not sure weather will be good then. Sorry to hijack thread.

For Poster:

Try the Mountain lift and Riply's Aquarium. Both are great...

NOV in the Smokies can be chilly but that is OK by Me because the trout fishing is great

Expect highs in the 60s and lows in the 30s

I'm not sure yet, I would like to go back in Oct or Nov. I like the fact that you can just enjoy the quite and relax or stay as busy as you want

For something unique and different try the Flyaway Indoor Skydiving attraction in Pigeon Forge. It's a vertical wind tunnel where you put on a baggy flight suit and float on air. It's pretty cool. My teens and I enjoyed it. It's a bit pricey but you don't get to do something like this everyday.

davel, good to hear that you had a great trip. Heading to Gatlinburg in mid September coming from Atlanta area. Great suggestions on this thread, though the DW and I are the ones traveling, our young-ins are thank God long out of the nest!
