Does the East Coast states have an E-Z Pass transponder system? Indiana, Illinois have this where you drive thru without stopping and get charged 50% or more of the toll booth rate. Last year I paid close to $50 going from Chicago to Goshen with toll booth rates. The E-Z Pass should save me $25 and time waiting in toll lines this year.

I'd just set the GPS to avoid tollroads and motor on,

Also thanks for the heads up on the "rain tax" just another reason to not move to or buy land in MD.

We do. I know they used to discount the toll a bit for the use of the pass but that seems to have gotten smaller and smaller over time. I think I do still save however. We also have ezpass only lanes here where you cannot get on or off without the pass.

Even if it cost me I would still have it. I remember a trip several years ago when I had a popup and we were in traffic on rt 1 by dover de with my parents in their class a.. They paid tolls (mom was all big brother is watching stuff..) we had ezpass. We got home an hour and a half before them! All because we had the high speed lane and they sat in traffic. I was sold with that!

Yep, They even have a flush tax too... imagine that. You pay it even if you live west of the continental divide in far western MD.

The rain tax only affects those living in counties which line the Chesapeake and factors in the hard surface (blacktop, roof, etc) of a person's property. Not all of us pay it.
Now, the flush tax... that torques me. I have a septic system. By the time any septic water from my property hits a stream, which then flows to the Potomac then Chesapeake, my water has got to be cleaner than anything filtrated by the local waste water treatment plant.

I've lived here over 44 continuous years, plus 2 while growing up. I've told the wife that by the time I hit full So. Sec. retirement, I want to be above the Mason/Dixon line or across the Potomac. I don't care which - just get me the heck out of this state!

Discounts? In MD? Perish the thought! If MD can make money on something, they will sure try.
