My sad Florida story

Staying at Tampa East RV Resort in Seffner. Pulled in Dec. 17th, set up, nice place. Visiting relatives in Plant City for the holidays. On Saturday, the 26 th, drove my F-350 to brother-in- laws house, and was crunched in a hit and run. $6000 in damages to my truck. FLHP was very nice, but told me that this happens all the time here, with no license, no insurance, warrant, etc. Insurance is taking care of the truck, and it's in the body shop now. Expected completion date ??? Problem is that my reservation here ends on Jan. 12th. No amount of negotiations with them have worked, they are at max capacity on the 13-18th for the big Tampa RV show. With no tow vehicle, I can't move my 42' 18,000 lb 5th wheel. Coach net will move it, but there is nowhere to go. Every campground is booked. We did get a rental car, and we could get a hotel, but we have our 3 dogs with us. I have called 12 campgrounds, all full. We need to stay in the area, but have now expanded our search. Gotta wait till Monday the 4th to start trying again.
I'm sure it will all work out, just venting a bit!

Try Rambler's Rest in Venice. Probably a bit further than you want to go but they always seem to have a space for short termers.

Ouch that sucks. I have been the victim of a hit and run previously too. $12,000in damages to a vehicle that was less than a year old. Never caught the guy. Hopefully some members here will have solutions on places to stay. I wish you luck.

Try Tropical Palms in Kissimmee. It may be further than you want to go, but it is a possibility.

Might ask shop if they can make it drive-able by the 12th even if not painted etc. Move it an bring TV back PIA but an option.

I don't know how much mechanical damage, but if the fender is just touching the tire maybe see if a body shop will do a quick temp repair. Then finish your holiday and repair your F-350 at home.

May try Hillsborough River S/P @ 813-987-6771; State parks sometimes hold a few sites vacant for emergency situations: worth a try.

Yes but he was planning to move somewhere on the 12th if no accident.

All good suggestions, but tried and no go at anything within 30 miles. No go on temp repair to truck either. The headlight/turn signal bucket is smashed, and the underlying support structure is bent and damaged. Also has to have a 4 wheel alignment. Got 1200 miles to go to get home, don't want to take any chances with possible hidden damage cropping up during that long of a journey. As all will agree, way to much $ invested, to say nothing of our lives, to take chances. I don't have to be anywhere, so we'll work it out. Still a good possibility we can get into citrus hills, or Sanlan, just gotta wait till Monday.

I agree.

I fender is the problem, porta power will solve that so yu can get home if there is no steering damage.

Talk to the body shop about having it moved to their parking lot.


A-they are getting 3k profit for fixing your truck so they will most likely accommodate you


B-this will also motivate them to get your truck done ASAP


C-I'm certain they will have a city water faucet for you to have a water source


D-They will at least have 110 so you can plug up low amp shore power for the bare necc.


E-when your truck is done, you can pull around the building, hook up and head out.


Not the best scenic camping, but crap happens some times and I really think they would help you out.

Fender is not the problem, does not hit tire. Had asked body shop for space, no go there.

What about parking camper at a storage lot or rv dealer and using a motel to stay in for a few days?
To me that sounds like your only choice.

What will happen IF your trailer is still there on the 13th?

Is there no one there who would help you out by moving you to another CG for the price of fuel?

Does the body shop have a truck that can move the trailer for you?

Sounds to me like you need to talk to the CG at using their on site storage for a few until truck is good.
