National Parks Trip

Just got back from trip to the National Parks. Wow this is a big country. Started in N.J. on to Blue Measa, Co. then to Moab, Ut., then to The Grande Cayon,south side.Wow,the best. On to Sedona, Ar. then Hover Dam up to Prvo Ut. Went to Zion.Bryce.Then on to the Tetons,Yellowstone,Glaicer. Went into Canada for the day. Then down to Medora. N.D. Then down to deadwood, S.D. black hills. Custer state park then headed back home stopping in Ohio, hocking Hills, then Hamburg Pa. four a 4 day rest then home. Saw a lot of neat places, a lot of nice people,and the trip went well. Would tell anyone to do it. Any one would like detail info on trip, be glad to share thoughts. Not enough room here to tell all. Trip took 7 weeks,

Glad to hear that you had a good time and that you are back home safe. We are planning a very similar trip next year. 35 campgrounds. 3 1/2 months. Leaving NC to Nashville then Tupelo onto Memphis, then north to Branson, then to the Badlands. From there we will head to Glacier Bay, then back south to Yellowstone, The thru Utah with some stops. We will then travel into Texas to visit one of my brothers. Leaving Texas for New Orleans and then back home to North Carolina. This will be our longest camping trip so far. Please give us more information on your trip such as roads traveled and CG's that you stay at. I would be very interested in that information since we will be travelling a lot of the same places that you just went to.

Captpaul, How many NPS Stamps did you put in your NPS Passport Book? Did you save any $ with your NPS "America the Beautiful Pass"? Yes the USA is a Beautiful place!

Congratulations, we did a similar trip from North Carolina last summer. What an experience, we can't wait to do it again. For us 6 weeks was just not enough so we are going to go back . Here are some of the places we stopped to visit.

sounds great! Is it too much to ask which parks? Did you have reservations? How many of the parks were no services?

Yes we didn't pay a cent to get in any Park! Was a good deal having the Senior pass $10 we had bought a couple years ago.

We didn't make any resv. due to the fact we didn't know how long we would want to stay at each place, and didn't want the time commitment. Stayed at Us forest parks a lot, state parks,and private. Any park camp that took Resv. were booked Full! Only got in on first come basis. Lewis was one in Yellowstone, bad choice! small and no Gen's allowed! Usally stayed within 10mi. of parks.

Most Parks were full, we did get in on first come basis on a couple. Desert View, at Grand Canyon, Lewis, in Yellowstone. We pick US forest or state parks mostly. most had electric, and dump stations and water,if no electric I had a gen.

Land between the lakes in Tenn, Kentucky is nice. Stayed at the north end campground. Black Hills, N.D is great! The Needles drive is cool, but can't take camper on it. Small Tunnels!, Also Custer state Park is there, Town of Deadwood is neat. Mt. Rushmore. Eat at Alpine Inn in Hill City ,but be there by 4:30 to get in line Great Steak! We stayed at a National forest 1 mi. from Mt Rushmore, forget the name. Going to Glacier, good stop is on rt2 Montana downstream campground, at fort peck. take rt 2 to glacier ST. Mary on east side. We stayed at Johnsons campground. East side of Glacier we stayed at Glacier campground 1 mi. from entrance to park. Rt 15 south toward Texas is good if going thru Utah. I did rt189 Utah nice view but 10600 feet a lot of swithbacks. Stayed in Deer creek campground near Prvo really nice Resivoir. Fishhead lake is nice area also. If you get to Sedona, that's really nice. Cottonwood, little town called Jerome up a steep Mt. Cool. Have fun hope this helped a bit

My DH and I want to take a tour out west from Massachusetts. We are just trying to figure out how long to stay in one place per night depending on how many weeks we go for. Also, what is the best time of the year to go. Are the cg still open ?
We recently went to MI and spent 17 days going to Rochester Ny, to Detroit Mi, to Kalamazoo to visit a relative then up the eastern shore to Mackinaw City to Sault St. Marie thru Ontario and back thru Ny. The last few nights we stayed one night but I felt like we were missing things to do. Stayed four days by Macinaw City. Where to stay and how long will be our biggest trial. Hopefully retirement is in the near future.

We did a similar trip this year only we started at our home in Central Florida. Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Sedona, Petrified Forest, Painted Desert, San Diego, Sequoia, Yosemite, Redwood Forest, Crater Lake, Yellow Stone, Grand Tetons, Canyon Lands, Dead Horse, Arches, Across the Rockies to Denver, Mt Rushmore, Custer, Kansas City, St Louis, Nashville. I am sure I have several out. Towing about 9,000 miles. Another 3,000 just driving around. Wonderful time.

Great trip. Ours is scheduled for June after a week in Asheville at the National Forest. Which NF park did you stay in Utah? How often did you use the gym?
We are right down the road from Hamburg.
