NC State Parks

All state parks east of I95 are closed as are many in central NC. Make sure you call before venturing this way for the next week or so!!

Everybody stay safe!

I live on the SE coast of NC. Have not heard of any parks closing or a reason why. West of 95 there are areas where fires are raging and some areas have evacuations which will surely effect western NC parks.

When I started this thread it was because of Hurricane Matthew...

Now all parks in the east seem to be open, but if you are heading to the western part of the state there are a few closed due to wildfires. Also there is a campfire and open cooking fire ban in all state parks. Gas cooking only unless you are east of I-95.

This is the latest from NC State Parks.....
South Mountains and Chimney Rock state parks are closed due to wildfires, and these parks are also closed to allow staff to assist at those fire scenes:
New River
Elk Knob
Mount Mitchell
Lake James
Gorges
Mount Jefferson State Natural Area

Due to an extremely high risk of wildfire, all state parks currently have banned campfires and open cooking fires. Only charcoal fires east of I-95. Propane and cooking stoves are permitted everywhere. Before visiting, check a park's web page on this site for local conditions.
