New campground or repeat?

My wife and I just got back from our 21st night at our 6th different campground in our 4th different state. We have been camping for less than a year, and like to explore new places.

My question to all of you is do you tend to frequent the same parks over and over, or pick out new places to go most of the time?

IF I go to the same CG it will be local and because we liked it there and it is a short stay.
On a trip I have NO intention of staying in the same place because there is just way to much to see in this country.

YES

If the park is what we would consider being an exceptional park we enjoy going back. Sometimes it's just nice to know what to expect.

That being said if a park has been nice but nothing over the top special we like to try to discover new places to park.

Some of the nicest parks we have stayed in have been your basic no frills or even a swimming pool park. We enjoy peace, quite and good people over glitz and glamor.

Both. We have a few places with an 1.5 hour drive that we frequent, plus we stretch out a few times a year to new places further away.

Both. If there was a place we really liked for a reason, let's say they had a special weekend with activities we enjoyed, we'd go back. Whenever we went to Wisconsin Dells, a very popular summer vacation spot, we'd always stay at Mirror Lake State Park because we enjoyed the quietness it provided vs a private campground in the area. But it's always nice to explore new places too. The only way to find nice campgrounds is to try different ones.

We are with you, jonrjen. We don't need all the extras. As long as it has some hiking trails we are good to go. Once we put our 3 year old to bed, there is nothing the wife and I like better than sitting by a quiet campfire, drink in hand, reading our books.

my kids are 15 and 17 and still enjoy camping with us, so we still frequent the family parks. I'm sure in several years when its just the two of us, less will be more. Just hiking, biking and kayaking, followed by relaxing

We do both. But since we still attend the weekly nose to the grindstone activity called work and limited vacation time, a lot of our camping stays within a couple of hours of home as I do not want to set up in the dark. So we have our favorites we go to and we try out some new ones here and there. I imagine once we retire, that may change.

I like going to new cg or parks without aa trailer to check out first. Have not done this before and had trouble getting to spots with a 34' 5er. And also had trees rubbing all over a new camper.
Now with an even larger 5th wheel comming, I will try to know exactly where I can get into before heading that way. I have cg spots that worked before but were tight, or tail almost dragged getting into them. These spots wont work now for us.

For the most part we stay in the same cg, but will venture out to new ones IF we know we can get into them.
Thats what we do off season, is look at other spots for the summer.

We have our regulars that we like to hit for certain times; Seneca Shadows in WV for the time around July 4th, Raystown Lake, PA for the time around Labor Day, Blue Knob SP for Memorial weekend - those are pretty much our regulars. We like to try one or two new CG's sometime during the summer for a couple of days. But like GalsofEscape, we also have limited time since DW and I are both working full time.
We have 9 trips planned this year. Some with only 3 nights of camping, some with 4 nights and 1 or 2 with 5 or more nights. Starting the 2nd weekend in May, we have something planned almost every-other weekend.

Our camper is our condo on wheels so we make sure to try a different park on every trip with the following exceptions:

-Disney...always camp @ Fort Wilderness
-Beach...always camp @ Topsail
-Atlanta...always camp @ Stone Mountain

We like to stay at new places and new parks most of the time. If we really enjoyed a particular place previously we will might back a few years later and stay again if we are going to be in the same area.

We have only repeated at one park so far. It's about 45 mi s from the house. The ultimate goal is to camp in the continental 48 states. Have to wait for retirement for that.

Our "kids" are 22 and 23 and when their schedule permits, still enjoy going with us. Nice having the camping to keep the family connected.

We have 2 state parks we consistently go to but always try new ones every year.

One of our favorite parks to take the dogs for a walk. One of the paths take you past here.

We have been camping about 3 years, been to a dozen different campgrounds. The two that we have returned to are for different reason, one it's local and close to work so it's a change of pace place. The other because we enjoy tubing down the James River in Va, this has become a yearly outing.

Check out our blog here for a list of locations

Wiscampsin, I grew up in Hurley, WI (where Hwy 51 ends and the fun begins). I know the Dells well. Always looked forward to making our summer trip there.

We do both, if it's for just a few days we go may be to 3 hours away. If we have more time we go farther away. I have several parks I would like to go to this year. Has anyone do the Natchez Trace with a motor home?

We have some very nice state parks around us here that are less than an hour's drive. We repeat camp at those. Our favorite weekend get away is a park about 35 miles away. Camp site number one is seldom booked, because it's not near the water's edge. That's our favorite spot for just a weekend of quiet and relaxation.

The park we stayed at in Pigeon Forge is definitely a repeater, if and when we go back there.

We'll be going to a "new" park on April 4th...another one very close to us. We scouted it out a few weeks back, noted the site we wanted, came home and booked it.

I often stay at the same two places because it works for me. I have my favorite campground close to home less than 10 miles away for a quick get-away and also go to the usual beach campground. I love full hookups so my choices for CA state parks is somewhat limited.

Like with other members if I were traveling I would seek out new places.
