Looking forward to our first trip to Turkey Swamp park in Freehold, NJ (Monmouth County). It's a county park, and only 40 bucks a night for NJ residents. From the pics of the sandy soil, I declare it to be southern NJ.

That's what all you northerners think. It's actually central joisey ( but what does a true Brooklyn boy know)

Freehold is definitely not "South Jersey". Check your maps. It's not even close to the shore.

Those of us who grew up on the South Jersey Shore consider anything north of Atlantic City to be "suspect" New Yorkers, but we usually, and begrudgingly accept folks from as far south as Barnegat Bay as true South Jersey citizens. It all depends upon which style of Philly Cheesesteak they prefer. If they order one with Cheez-Wiz, then they are definitely not from South Jersey!!

You could stay in Deleware and ride the ferry to Cape May. Walk on/off. I have friends that do this.
And at $65 round trip for a vehicle taking the ferry is more economical than an 11% tax?

But it's sandy! Was the shore at one time!

Too late, location was picked so it's a reasonable drive for everyone. We were looking for a good get-together location, and I think Coney did a good job.

Finally, Jfkmk, Deuce did say walk on/off. I don't know what's in walking distance of the ferry, but Cape May is small. I'm sure his is referring to the tax free benefits of lots of stuff in Delaware.

Reread what I wrote. No vehicle, walk on/off a lot cheaper!

Not sure what being close to the shore has to do with being "South Jersey"

Point Pleasant is on the shore and I wouldn't consider that to be south Jersey at all, yet Vineland is nowhere near the shore but is definitely in Southern Jersey

Pt. Pleasant is Northern Southern Jersey. Or is it Southern Central Jersey? Coney, you've adjusted well to NJ, EVERYTHING is open to debate here!

OK, so it is $18 per person (14 yo+) round trip. Two adults is $36 round trip, so I still dont see how you figure you're saving over an 11% tax. That's an awfully expensive camp site! Then you get to NJ and have no transportation.

I never rode the ferry so I don't know what it costs and I try to get the heck out of jersey every chance I can! The 11% tax is just another rip off. At $40 a night for 5 nights, that's $22 on top of the tax already there! I have only lived here since 64!

We just got back from our first time at Big Timber Lake. We loved it! Very clean and family friendly. They have zipline courses on property as well as mini golf.
