New to NY

We are a Military family that loves camping. We spent the last 8 years enjoying the Pacific Northwest. Well recently we have been uprooted and landed in upstate New York. Does anybody have any good camping spots for a family with four little girls to enjoy?

Welcome to New York - the better part of the state!
Many great campgrounds are in NY!
NYS En Con runs many, as does

Campgrounds and Camping Reservations - New York State Parks
is an online reservation system.
Camping - NYS Dept. of Environmental Conservation
has more info.

Some are operated by the NYS Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation
Camping - NYS Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation

Much will depend on time of year, which direction in the state you want to visit and amenities you hope to have available at the campground. Most are aimed at boondocking, with dump stations. Many have a lake on site if you like boating, canoeing, fishing...

Good Luck!

Glenn

I've never been to it personally but I hear Lake George RV Resort is nice. Little pricey though.

Well check out the links previously posted and you are also not that far from VT. There are some nice CGs both public & private. Here is the VT state parks link: Vermont State Parks

Upstate NY Rochester - Buffalo area

Welcome to NY -Thank you fro your service -I have 2 sons in the Air Force, 1 is based in northern CA at this time. I hope you enjoy the east coast for camping.
If you come west toward Rochester/Buffalo, I recommend Southwoods RV Resort6749 Townline Road Byron, NY 14422 (585) 548-9002, Red Rock Ponds RV Resort 16097 Canal Road Holley, NY 14470 (585) 638-2445 and if you are golfers, Hickory Ridge Golf & RV resort 15853 Lynch Road Holley, NY 14470
(585) 638-0220. All are easy to get to, day trips to Niagara Falls, Darien Lake Theme Park, Genesee Country Village & Museum, and much more. I wish you peace and a happy stay in NY.

I live in Northern New York, and our favorite campgroud is Coles Creek State Park in Waddington, NY--on the St. Lawrence River. Hundreds of camp sites, many on the water. Many with electric hook-ups, but non-electric sites available both on the water and in the woods. Also, an electric no-pet area. Great family area, but also a great place during non-peak seasons for those of us who like a bit more tranquility.

To be sitting by your campfire and watching ocean going vessels pass by in the night is impressive. Good fishing, swimming available.

Lake George RV park is one of the top 10 Campgrounds in the country (according to Travel Channel). It is pricey but this park is an example of you get what you pay for. There is something for everyone and Its location is close to lots of stuff to do. My family is grown so Its just my wife and I but we still spend lots of time at this great campground!

My family and I spent many happy camping trips in the Finger Lakes region when I was growing up, great fishing too. I'm partial to Lake Cayuga and Taughannock Falls State Park (featuring a taller water fall than Niagara!) You'll find many beautiful campgrounds around Ithaca, Watkins Glen, Seneca Falls, and points in between. Good luck, and welcome to the "other" coast."
