Nova scotia in august

Would like some input for an upcoming trip to Nova Scotia, PEI in the second week of August. Will be traveling from Jacksonville, Fl. up I-95 to I-26 to I-77 to I-81 ETC and on to I-95 in Maine.

My question is, where would you cross into New Brunswick ? Would you cross at Calais or at I-95 / CAN-2.

Our trip in the early stages of planning. Will visit PEI / Nova Scotia / Cabot Trail.

Are there any recommendations for camp grounds after crossing into New Brunswick, PEI near Charlottetown. Also near the Bay of Fundy. I would like to stay away from the beaches. (I live near the beach now)

I would prefer a full hook up with 30 amps.

In August, would you suggest advance reservations?

Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I have look at I-95 up the eastern seaboard, but I do not need to get into NJ/ New York City area, that is the reason I have selected I-85 to get around the congestion.

I cannot answer many of your questions but can give you unsolicted advice. Nova Scotia is much larger than you think so plan accordingly. Once you get off the major highways, travel is slow. We visited on the motorcycle several years ago and the road surface was poor to fair. Each part of the island has appeal. Cabot trail is beautiful and is highly recommended. Halifax is worth seeing for a few days.

We had lunch many days by riding out to the pier in smaller towns and eating at the restaurant at the end of the piers. Many times they are operated by locals. Great seafood. I also recommend the culinary institute of Canada located in Charlottetown, PEI.

I would certainly make reservations in as many places as possible. Tourism is high during the summer months.

I always take highway 9 from Bangor, Me to Calais. Winding road but in decent condition. been upgraded in recent years. I never plan ahead and don't usually have much of a problem getting a campsite with 3 way and 30amp. Sometimes you may get a 20 amp hookup, but open the windows and a nice breeze will keep you cool at night. I set you a private email with some tourist links that may help you. Email back with any specific questions. By the way, beach camping here is probably a bit different than beach camping in florida.
