Ocala, FL Christmas Week

My entire family and wife's family live in Ocala, FL. I grew up there. However, I am the only one that ever bought a travel trailer and that was long after moving away. So we have no knowledge of campgrounds in the area. In any case, we are going there the week of Christmas and were planning to take the travel trailer as our motel while there. Everyone lives in southeast Ocala. Does anyone know of a decent campground that would be in that area and that would have full hookups available (including sewer)? I'm trying not to be a long drive away from everyone if that's possible.

Suggestions?

Have never camped in Ocala but checkout Passport Americas website. They list a few CG's in the Ocala area.

Will you guys be close to the Silver Springs area? If so, I've heard wonderful things about Wilderness RV resort.

Otherwise, there are a couple of full hook up campgrounds right off of I75. I don't know the exit number, but it's the exit for hwy 200. One is behind Sams Club, and the other is behind the Cracker Barrel.

Rainbow Springs State Park in Dunnellon has a newly refurbished RV campground and is $15/nite for Fla residents (have an Ocala resident make the reservation).

Welcome to Florida State Parks

Ended up reserving at Wilderness RV. That one is very close to my family. I drove past this place a lot when I was a kid. But back then I am pretty sure there was no campground there... Just forest. Price was excellent for full hookups, cable, and wifi. Sure couldn't get a hotel room for it. Maybe two nights max in a hotel for the same price. We will be staying 7 days over Christmas.

You'll have to come back and let us know how you liked Wilderness RV. We were going to go there over Labor day, but ended up going to the Florida Panhandle instead. From what I can tell, it's a nice RV resort.

We live about 15 minutes from Rainbow Springs SP. We just got our new travel trailer in August, and Rainbow Springs is on our short list of places we want to camp. I've been to the springs, but we've never seen the campground. I've heard it's really nice.

If I can manage to remember by that time I will post an update as to how it went. The Dunnellon location would have been too far a daily commute for visiting the family or that might have been one I'd look into too.
