Nick M...

Sorry, I thought I was replying to the OP who was coming from N of Louisville.

I don't mind the climb and my truck holds speed well unless I get caught behind an 18 wheeler.
That is my problem... heavy truck traffic on those hills makes me have to run behind those slow trucks, always in second gear on my old 3-speed auto tranny... happens about 3 or 4 times. I cannot run around them, as I can barely maintain 40-45 without a good running start up the big hills.
The longer route is much easier driving in much less traffic. I always return home from the FL panhandle area and come up I-65 from Montgomery to E-town to Lexington in late March. When it gets dark at 5:30 in Dec-Jan, some driving in the dark is almost unavoidable.

You can run around Atlanta on I-285 traffic is heavy there usually too, but at least not all the crazy lane changing like going thru Atlanta.

I usually stop at Forsyth, GA rest area, then a night or two or three near White Springs, FL at the Stephen Foster SP campground where there is always room, then Ft Myers or wherever the destination is.

We'll be doing the trip to FL from OH in March. With the 5er and Dmax it was never a problem maintaining speed up Jelico, will be interesting to see how the Gtown will do. We usually stop at the welcome center just inside FL, which is a long day's drive, 11-12hrs with fuel stops. This year we will be traveling with friends and may check out the rest area north of Macon. There is also an overnight campground in Tifton, GA (I-75 Rv park) that is right at the base of the off ramp that we may check out. I think it has all pull thru sites and you can check in at any time, day or night. Had reservations year before last but decided to travel further on to the welcome center. I have driven straight through many times, but now split it into 2 days.

We're finally on our way! First stop was Columbus, Indiana at Woods N Water Campground. Easy to get to with nice people. 302 miles.
Now we are at Harvest Moon RV Park in Adairsville, Georgia. Between Chattanooga and Atlanta. 330 miles today.
Tomorrow we are at Eagle's Roost in Lake Park, GA. 🚌
