I don't mind the climb and my truck holds speed well unless I get caught behind an 18 wheeler.

That is my problem... heavy truck traffic on those hills makes me have to run behind those slow trucks, always in second gear on my old 3-speed auto tranny... happens about 3 or 4 times. I cannot run around them, as I can barely maintain 40-45 without a good running start up the big hills.
The longer route is much easier driving in much less traffic. I always return home from the FL panhandle area and come up I-65 from Montgomery to E-town to Lexington in late March. When it gets dark at 5:30 in Dec-Jan, some driving in the dark is almost unavoidable.
You can run around Atlanta on I-285 traffic is heavy there usually too, but at least not all the crazy lane changing like going thru Atlanta.
I usually stop at Forsyth, GA rest area, then a night or two or three near White Springs, FL at the Stephen Foster SP campground where there is always room, then Ft Myers or wherever the destination is.
