My recommendation is take lots of $$$. I lived there and it is definitely a Tourist Trap. Left there and never looked back. Unless your a gluten for punishment and like traffic jams and overpriced over rated attractions and long lines for any food places my suggestion would be to steer clear of that money pit. Do a google search for RV campgrounds and call ahead, it’s the peak vacation season right now before school starts.

We enjoy camping in Townsend, which they call the Quiet Side of the Smokies. Townsend is a small town along the Little River. They do not have chain restaurants. They have several RV parks. We have only stayed at Lazy Daze. Our TT is 30 feet with the hitch. We always like getting a site on the river. The sites on the river have a covered gazebo with the picnic table in it.
It is not the nicest park we have ever been to, but it is shady and they have a pool and are on the river. I am not sure about 50 amp service. There is tubing available on that river and the town is the closest to Cades Cove in the Park. The town is 20 minutes from Pigeon Forge by back road, which is what I would suggest, rather than going through Gatlinburg. Folks will give you lots of options for other parks in the area, I am sure.

We stay at Rippling Waters cg. Its a Good Sam and prices are very reasonable around $ 35 to $40 per night for 50 amp Lots of shade and big pull through s . We where there a week ago and is where we always stay. Its not far into Pigeon Forge from CG. Its not the fanciest place but folks real friendly and they do have a pool. Later RJD

We stayed at the Pigeon Fork/Gatlinburg KOA. It's a bit pricey though.

I've stayed at Riverside RV park and plantation RV resort. Both are nice enough and roomy.

We have stayed at Pine Mountain campground, at Riveredge, Camp River Landing, Eagles Nest. We have stayed at Rivers Plantation in Sevierville and Riverside RV. Riverside is closer to the interstate. Traffic is not so bad if you know your way around the traffic. Veterans Blvd is one way around traffic another way is Old Newport Highway. The campgrounds in Pigeon Forge have trolley that usually run close to them or through them. We love Pigeon Forge. I heard of one trolley driver that didn’t finish his route in leaf season. I didn’t know my way around the first year I went, from stoplight number 1 it took two hours to get to stoplight number 10. There is three lanes in Pigeon Forge, stay in the middle lane. I have never seen the Pigeon Forge police writing speeding tickets. We normally eat out when there, there is a ton of good places to eat at. I guess Anchor Down is a nice campground but from Riveredge campground I can walk a short distance to a lot of good food or ride a short ride on the trolley to great restaurants

River plantation RV Resort in Seiverville was our first adventure in our 5th wheel. If I remember correctly there is a quarry nearby and the sites 1-18 supposedly get some noise from it. We stayed on the opposite side of the park so I can't vouch for it.
I believe site 18 or 401, has a really nice view of a little brook entering the river. Creates some pleasant noise and sights if you have a rear window.
We are definitely wanting to go back at some point, just want to go everywhere else also. LOL

I forgot about Pine Mountain in town on the Little Pigeon River. (Thanks Spock123) We had a little bear walk thru there one morning. And Up The Creek campground also. A little out of the way but nice and quiet.

Little Pigeon River also runs on the back side of Rippling waters cg and you can get a site to back right up to river and do some fishing if that is your thing.
And don't believe spock as the police will write you a ticket they patrol the highway very well and I saw several folks pulled over. Just watch your speed. Later RJD
