Pittsburg to Tampa (WV tunnels) July 2015

Plan to travel (July 14, 15 &16) from Pittsburg to Tampa via I-79 through West Virginia. Believe there are two (2) tunnels and wonder about any restrictions regarding propane tanks.

Also any major construction projects enroute and interested in other thoughts and ideas of this route.

I-79 to US 19 to I-79. Then I-81 to I-77 and picking up I-26 to I-95. I-95 to Jacksonville and west to 301 south to Ocala.

Looking for overnight (sleep only) RV sites close to Interstate. Must have electric for CPAP.

Thanks for any help, ideas and suggestions.

Just went through there over Memorial Day weekend. No propane restrictions on those tunnels.

To avoid the traffic in Jacksonville, take the first exit off I-95 in Fl for route 200. This leads directly into 301 south with good signage and good roads. There's a good overnight campground at the last exit in Kingsland Georgia - KIKI park. Not fancy, but very close to I-95. There's a KOA in Starke, Fl right on 301 about 3 hours north of Tampa.

x2 what wbdavey said; US301 the way to go to just north of Ocala. Take 326 west to I-75 then south to Tampa. 301 a little iffy from Ocala south.

Absolutely! We live just north of here. Avoid 301 through Ocala unless you are avoiding I-75 due to a traffic tie-up or if you just want to visit. Rt. 326 is a good place to gain entrance to the interstate and there is a truck stop (or two) there where you can gas up if needed. Where are you staing in Tampa? Have a safe trip!

happy traveler

I live just off I-75 north of Tampa. Thanks for the information. I am familiar with the Jacksonville area but had forgotten the drive around to miss Jacksonville. We usually do the Ohio, Kentucky, Tenn, Alabama route to Pennsacola to visit grandchildren. Thanks for the info.

x2 for the steel city in Pennsylvania, which is what I think the thread is discussing.

But no H for Pittsburg in New Hampshire, Kansas, Kentucky, and Florida.

I have never had a problem taking 95 to 295 to 10 to 301 to skip the 95/10 interchange and I make that trip in both directions several times a year.

It has gotten especially easy since they updated the 95-295 interchange near the JAX airport.

enroute

First day of trip has been very good except a wreck at M 112 south bound I 79 in WV. At 11 am the traffic was backed up ~45 minutes. Spending the night in Virginia just north of NC line.

Thanks for the info and advice. It's southbound and down tomorrow morning early.

Safe travels - you made it through Beckley! We usually boondock at the NC welcome center on our first night of that run.
