Places to camp on or near a beach

Does anyone know some great places to camp on or near a beach? Preferably in VA, MD, or DE.

1st Landing State Park in Va. Beach. Not on the breach, but pretty darn close.

Thanks I read about that place but wasn't sure how close it was to the beach. Is it a nice place with things to do for the kids?

What about state park with lakes? There may be a better chance of finding a campsite backing onto water.

There is only a dune separating many campsites from the ocean. Several nice board walks are available to get to the beach.....no walking across the dunes is allowed.

There is no swimming pool or video arcade for the kids. Plenty of nature trails, bike trails, and the beach to entertain.....at least from my standpoint.

Camping near the beach, still 15 minute ride. Ocean City MD, We stay at Castaways off Eagle's Landing Road.
Best place near the beach and camping has to be Myrtle Beach. There are 4 very large Campgrounds that border the ocean. Lakewood, Pirateland, Ocean Lakes and Myrtle Beach Travel Park. We've stayed at 3 out of 4 and this year are going to Pirateland, which will be our first time there. They are all very nice places.

Assateague Island State or National Park. Outstanding beach camping, wildlife (including the famous wild horses), 20 minutes south of Ocean City Boardwalk, great surf fishing, clamming, crabbing, surf or bay kayaking, etc....

Both State and Fed? I didn't think that the Fed side filled as quick.

We try to go to Assateague State Park every other year. Last summer, three of us were on the phone and on-line at exactly 0800, 364 days from when we wanted to arrive in the summer of 2013. We got the eight sites that we needed for our group, all together!

If your willing to go a little further south, the outer banks are only a little further than VA Beach. We frequent a place there called Ocean Waves. 38 bucks a night for full hook up. The beach is right across the dune.

We stayed at First Landing State Park last year and really enjoyed it. There's no pool but who needs that at the beach! We will be going back again this year for a longer stay.

Assateague State Park has been a favorite of ours for the last several years. That's where the pics in my signature line were taken. However, this year we are skipping Assateague and are planning to go to Hunting Island, SC.

Have stayed at Holiday Travel park in VA beach. Nice but not on the beach like we like. You can take the trolley to the beach. LOVE Myrtle Beach travel park. Already booked for 2014.. Lots for the kids to do with out leaving the campground. There are also a few in OBX that are right on the beach but I don't recall the name of the campground!

Good luck and Happy Camping!!

How strict is Lakewood with the no alcohol policy? I already booked there and then read that they do not allow alcohol in the resort, considering canceling there and booking Pirate Land
