Planning a weekend trip to St Augustine Fl

Any recommendations on campgrounds near St Augustine?

Anastasia state Park is close if you like to camp at/near the beach. Short drive to St Augustine.

Anastasia State Park is indeed very nice, with on-park access to the beach, but it can get very booked up, and iirc the campsites are very small (tho' that's based on recollection from quite a few years back when tent camping, tho' we did look at the RV sites).


We've stayed at the St Augustine KOA in the 5er, which is actually very close to Anastasia State Park. The park was nice and clean, with fairly roomy sites, and it has a small lake (with cabins on the far side).
It's about a mile from the beach (and pier), and you could even walk into the state park along the beach. (we actually drove into the state park after checking out, and parked there the next day while spending an extra couple of hours at the beach)
We did have a problem with a backed-up sewer connection, which they took a while to fix (but were very apologetic about afterwards, and did offer for us to move sites rather than wait)


A little bit further out is Faver Dykes state park, which we've also really enjoyed (stayed in our old pop-up, before getting the 5er). Very quiet park, away from everything, but be warned that the "roads" in the campground area are narrow and uneven (so you might struggle if you have a big rig).

Regardless of which campground you choose, in addition to visiting St Augustine itself I'd recommend visiting Fort Matanzas. You get a little boat across to the old fort (5 mins on the boat across the inlet) and they give some historical information, let you tour around the small fort, and may even fire the cannons. (There's also sometimes dolphins that'll swim alongside the boat). Good way to spend a few hours

Thank you for the information. This will be our 3rd trip in the new rv.
We are def new at rving. Trying to find campgrounds is challenging. So many here in FL and all look good till you read reviews.

On the Golf side there are quite a few CGs too. Many are old ~ some kept up well and others not so much. Many are seasonal or annual rentals now and many are really tight. Visited a few in Ft Meyers last winter that were very tight ~ one was tough to negotiate the roads with just the truck, another said to drop the 5er and they would park it with the tractor as "it gets close there". So, we stay in Sarasota.

Anastasia state park is nice but usually booked heavily and some sites can be small. We stayed recently at Stagecoach RV just a short drive from downtown. Nice clean place and all sites are pull thru

North beach cam resort is great! Calm river on west side, turbulent and exciting (to me) on the east side and a pool in the middle.
And a awesome restaurant when you don't feel like camping.

Our favorite is North Beach Camp. Between the intercostal and the ocean. Beautiful, especially if you get a spot by the inter coastal at the back of the campground. 4 miles north of historic downtown.

Anastasia is nice but you have to reserve at least 9 months out.

Bryn Marw is nice too. We will be there in June. About 15-20 minutes south of historic downtown. There beachside spots are sweet and you walk right down the boardwalks to crescent beach.

Staying in Anastasia next month.
Ride bikes to the beach (can tow our fishing gear behind), ride our bikes to the amphitheater to listen to whoever is performing (last year was John Fogerty 1 night & Old Crow Medicine show the next) and will be in the park on a Friday so we can again bike to the Saturday morning artisan farmers market at the amphitheater.
We do head into town to hit up the Ice Plant / St Augustine Distillery for fancy afternoon cocktails (way fun to watch them make some very cool cocktails while sitting at the bar) or the San Sebastian winery for entertainment and a glass or two of wine. Breweries are there too & usually our favorite but not for this trip

So many nice places. We can't wait for trip #3 in the new TT. Oh what will we forget this time?

My vote would also be Anastasia State Park if you plan early, yes it is tight but I managed to fit in there with our 39' 5th wheel and Kenworth tow vehicle, we did park the truck in a overflow spot and just used the Smart to explore. Wonderful place and plan to return.
