Planning trip to Gettysburg/DC area

We are in the planning stages of a trip (May 2015) for the Gettysburg / DC and any other suggested areas. Looking at about a 2 week trip for the family. 11, 8, and 6 plus mom and dad. We have a 2015 Rockwood Signature @ 34'. Any suggestions to blog posts, places to see or stay would be greatly appreciated. We aren't limited to just these areas - anything with early American History will thrill the kids!

Mountain Creek RV Park in Gardners, Pa is great for camping and for kids. Very family orientated. It is about 19 miles from Gettysburg, PA. Check it out online.

In the DC area look at Cherry Hill, voted number one campground several years. They have everything from a metro stop to post office and only 15 to 20 mint away from downtown DC. Have stayed there before and really enjoyed it.

Lots of stuff in and around Philly area - independence hall, liberty bell, (brain fart) that place wash stayed in the winter.... Gettysburgh is great, 40 mi south is Antietam, also great. Manassas/bullrun is a waste.
Mt Vernon is close, Monticello not too far off.
In SE pa you also have Hershey (chocolate) and amish country.
Williamsburg and Jamestown are worth a visit also.

We love Gettysburg Campground.
Try to get a spot against the creek. So peaceful listening to the creek babbling. Kids love to wade and net crayfish in the creek. Close to town. Plan to spend a day doing the driving tour. You can get the 2 CD set at the camp store.
This has become our favorite campground.

I live in G-burg and camp often. Drummerboy is very nice and offers a lot of sites. Gettysburg CG can get pretty tight with some larger rigs in certain areas. Granite Hill CG is another mile up the road and also offers a lot of sites. There is also Artillery Ridge CG just outside of town. Will be staying there for the first time in May. Lots to do and see in the Gettysburg area i f you are a history buff or like to sight see.

We've stayed at drummerboy in Gettysburg as well. It's a big campground, we stayed all the way in the back to avoid the highway noise.

Check out gettypeds in Gettysburg for a different way to see the battlefields (3 wheel scooters). My kids loved it. Very safe.

It's not history related but look into nearby Hershey, PA. Campground, amusement park and lots of chocolate!
