Question about Ft Wilderness Transportation

SO we are heading to the mouse house in the end of fall. We booked the Fast passes and such last night but had a question as said above... How long does it typically take to get from the CG to the parks using the transportation (boat train plane, whatever they got going). DW is working out the schedule and wanted to know what the take on this was. Thanks!

We were there in April of this year, but we stayed at Animal Kingdom Lodge, which is one of the furthest ones away from the Magic Kingdom.

On our first day there, Sunday, we waited about 10 minutes for a bus, then had a 30 minute ride to the MK. Then another 5 minute walk up to the entrance. At the end of the night, after the fireworks and then the LED light show, we waited about 15 minutes for a bus, then only a 20 minute ride back. That was the longest we waited because spring break was over and the crowds thinned tremendously.

Hope you have a fabulous time. We have done it and that's the end of it for us.

If we return to Orlando, we will be going to Universal. Our girls (11 and 8) liked the rides there much better than at the mouse house.

Thank you. Our daughter's 2.5 so she will be doing some rides but probably mostly hanging with the Disney critters. I figure it is like a right of passage or something...

From Fort Wilderness you can take the boat to Magic Kingdom. Very Nice. You can also take the boat to the Contemporary Lodge and catch the Monorail to the Transportation Center. From there, you can take the 'other' monorail to EPCOT. We stayed at Fort Wilderness in March of this year. Longest wait for a bus was ~30 minutes at Fort Wilderness to Hollywood Studios. The rides were all under 30 minutes both coming and going. If you are staying at Fort Wilderness, recommend going to Fort Fiends - Articles - Fort Fiends

This is an excellent resource with great info. Highly recommend watching the Light Parade and fireworks from the beach at Fort Wilderness one evening. Lots to do at campground itself.

Thank you.. I was there when I was 10. Man it seems like it is just crazy now! 2 hour waits for rides and such.

We always plan for an hour to get anywhere from anywhere when we go to Disney.

Four trips to Disney in 2014, all in Fort Wilderness. My advice is rent a golf cart if you can. The best is after a long day in the park, getting off the bus / boat in FW and not having to walk back or wait for another bus to take you to your loop. The golf cart will make your trip much more enjoyable.
Based on the time you year you are going it is also fun to ride around all the loops and check out everyone's decorations for Halloween, they are great.

BamaGrad (from a AU grad) was right on with his data. We live in Orlando and have camped two different week this year at DW. It is dumb to go between late May and Sep;....but of course we did. That is when grandchildren were available.
The transportation system is great. You get off close to the gate of the park you are visiting. At FW is drops you off less than 5 min from your rig. Just no parking hassell at all. If you do not have a pet (dog) try to get in the "1100" circle...it is right next to events(movie, campfire, somores, swimming) in FW. There is alot of entertainment and food around the Settlement in FW also.

X2. We rented one a few years ago. That year when we got back home, I bought my own. Now we bring our own golf car and makes the stay even more enjoyable. Whether it's going to the boats for transport or taking a ride to the pool, hop on the cart and go.

We also live in Orlando and visit FW at least once a year (more often if we get the chance). I would definitely second the suggestion of getting a golf cart, especially with little ones. After our first visit to FW, we actually went out and bought our own cart to take with us. We have a large group from our church that will be there the first weekend in November (we usually take up three full loops!) so depending on when your visit is you may want to reserve a cart early. They do run out of them pretty quickly! There are some places around town that rent carts cheaper than FW does, so it wouldn't hurt to shop around (check out MyRvHotel.com - RV Rental On Site! for one). If you have the cart, you can get yourself around more on your own schedule within the campground and don't have to worry about crowded buses at the busy hours. We usually drive our cart down to the boat landing and take the launch over to MK; you can catch the bus or monorail from there for other parks. Bus wait times are pretty regular but crowds, traffic, etc. can impact them so be patient and plan to leave early for your events. Have fun!

By the way, here's a map of the campground so you can get a better feel for where everything is, how it flows, etc.

We go there a couple times a year since forever with our 5 kids, never used a golf cart, just bikes around the campground, though they look fun. If you have your own vehicle, it looks like you do, parking in all the parks is FREE! Just flash your resort pass. Take the boat to MK, but drive yourself to the other parks, zero wait time. Go to downtown Disney for some fun, free entertainment too; lots of shopping, eating, and live bands even the munchkin would enjoy.

There are schedules, we used the boat and buses. Times were pretty accurate I don't really remember sitting on either very long. Boat was my favorite. We rented a golf cart and parked it at stops in the park. Our site was close to a bus stop, so we walked. Parked our cart close to the boat docks. No problems.

The boat was the best and qickest way to MK. Plus its neat transportation for kids. Fort Wilderness was easily one of the nicest cg we ve been to. Enjoy

Never rented a golf cart, will agree with comments.
Second to the golf cart would be your bicycle(s). Our 6 and 8 year loved riding theirs around the loop and to the FW events. Cars are not a problem but golf carts can be.
Even if you just use the bus it is still easy to get around.

I don't ever recall boat or bus "schedules" in Disney World at the Fort or any other hotel resort. Some places have screens that tell you how long the next bus will be for the different destination, but it isn't everywhere.

no there are no posted schedules, but most come every 10 -20 minutes. Much better than driving, parking and getting to the park entrance. AND you can rest coming home. Maybe because I am the "driver" in my group that is why I would go no other way.

Different strokes and all that- I'm also the driver. If I couldn't take boat or monorail, we drove. I didn't like the double-bus stuff inside the fort and we are eternally late, so it is usually quicker to drive. Except- Downtown Disney (aka Disney Springs) is a nightmare to drive to.
