We also live in Orlando and visit FW at least once a year (more often if we get the chance). I would definitely second the suggestion of getting a golf cart, especially with little ones. After our first visit to FW, we actually went out and bought our own cart to take with us. We have a large group from our church that will be there the first weekend in November (we usually take up three full loops!) so depending on when your visit is you may want to reserve a cart early. They do run out of them pretty quickly! There are some places around town that rent carts cheaper than FW does, so it wouldn't hurt to shop around (check out MyRvHotel.com - RV Rental On Site! for one). If you have the cart, you can get yourself around more on your own schedule within the campground and don't have to worry about crowded buses at the busy hours. We usually drive our cart down to the boat landing and take the launch over to MK; you can catch the bus or monorail from there for other parks. Bus wait times are pretty regular but crowds, traffic, etc. can impact them so be patient and plan to leave early for your events. Have fun!

By the way, here's a map of the campground so you can get a better feel for where everything is, how it flows, etc.

We go there a couple times a year since forever with our 5 kids, never used a golf cart, just bikes around the campground, though they look fun. If you have your own vehicle, it looks like you do, parking in all the parks is FREE! Just flash your resort pass. Take the boat to MK, but drive yourself to the other parks, zero wait time. Go to downtown Disney for some fun, free entertainment too; lots of shopping, eating, and live bands even the munchkin would enjoy.

There are schedules, we used the boat and buses. Times were pretty accurate I don't really remember sitting on either very long. Boat was my favorite. We rented a golf cart and parked it at stops in the park. Our site was close to a bus stop, so we walked. Parked our cart close to the boat docks. No problems.

The boat was the best and qickest way to MK. Plus its neat transportation for kids. Fort Wilderness was easily one of the nicest cg we ve been to. Enjoy

Never rented a golf cart, will agree with comments.
Second to the golf cart would be your bicycle(s). Our 6 and 8 year loved riding theirs around the loop and to the FW events. Cars are not a problem but golf carts can be.
Even if you just use the bus it is still easy to get around.

I don't ever recall boat or bus "schedules" in Disney World at the Fort or any other hotel resort. Some places have screens that tell you how long the next bus will be for the different destination, but it isn't everywhere.

no there are no posted schedules, but most come every 10 -20 minutes. Much better than driving, parking and getting to the park entrance. AND you can rest coming home. Maybe because I am the "driver" in my group that is why I would go no other way.

Different strokes and all that- I'm also the driver. If I couldn't take boat or monorail, we drove. I didn't like the double-bus stuff inside the fort and we are eternally late, so it is usually quicker to drive. Except- Downtown Disney (aka Disney Springs) is a nightmare to drive to.
