Recession must be over! Traffic is miserable!

Just spent two grueling days trying to get back to Kentucky from
Savannah GA (Tybee Island)
We broke the long drive in two and put it on a Saturday and Sunday
thinking somehow that would help with less traffic.
At least the construction zones would not have workers present.

Wow! No sooner than we got on I 95 North out of Savannah we
hit the dreaded slinky or inch worm. That's where the traffic is flying
along at speed limit or above and suddenly it's all brake lights in both
lanes as far as you can see.
Dead stop and then creep along- often under 10 mph! Finally it would
gradually start to spread out and speed up. We might actually get back
to normal for a mile or 2 and BAM- same thing again. Each time there
was no accident or any other reason other than just too many cars
trying to follow too close. One guy taps the brakes and they all have
to do the same.

I was hoping it would be better when we changed from I 95 to I 26 East
but after a few miles on the 26 it started happening again.

Our first 140 miles we averaged 35 MPH.
What a LONG grueling day!
Sunday from Brevard NC back to KY via I 75 North wasn't much better.
It rained buckets as we traveled around Knoxville and into southern KY.
IF it wasn't the inch worm traffic it was raining so hard everyone had
their flashers on and driving 30. Hit another bad slow down
just south of Lexington. We bailed off the interstate and took a side
road to hit 64 west which thankfully wasn't bad.

Both days took 3 + hours longer than would have with decent traffic.

This was the weekend BEFORE the 4th!!
I don't want to even think about driving next weekend!!

We had a great vacation but trying to get home was the pits!!

Gas is 40¢ more in Kentucky than SC TN or GA. Be sure and fill up before you cross our blue grass state!
We saw gas for $3.29 but had just filled up one exit back.
It's $3.82 or more in my back yard

I think a lot of people must have traveled this weekend and taken this week off. Very little traffic headed to work in Raleigh this morning. We camped 100 miles from home this past weekend and had very little traffic on I-95 or 64 in NC.

I guess that must be part of it. I didn't think about folks taking off the
weekend before the 4th.

It really left me with a dread about further trips in that part of the country.
We are staying HOME for the 4th.
Those of you on the road good luck! You can have our spot!

Oddly diesel is cheaper than regular in Louisville.
I didn't pay attention at the truck stops so can't be sure it's that way
state wide.....

Gas is always higher around Louisville and sometimes Lexington. I always try to fill up before I go to Louisville.

It's $3.54 in Somerset and even lower in Bowling Green. And, the prices always seem to go up around holidays.

I left Aiken SC. on Saturday 28th heading home to north Texas traffic was horrible in Alabama and MS. lots of rain and tons of cars. I drove right thru to miss daytime traffic. Will never try that again.

I expect lots of people did take this week off since the 4th falls on Friday this year. Take 4 days of leave and get nine days; this weekend, MTWT annual leave, Friday 4th, then next weekend.

We're supposed to pick up our 5er from warranty one day this week and DH just asked if I wanted to slip off to a local park this weekend.

Uhhh that'd be NO! Learned our lesson re camping on the 4th last year. If we camp this weekend it'll be Camp Backyard!

We had some high traffic heading into Pigeon Forge\Gatlinburg area this weekend. We were headed down I-40 East yesterday to run some errands and traffic was backed up 5 miles before the HWY 66 exit to go towards Pigeon Forge.

Besides traffic, notice how full the campgrounds are too! A lot of brand new tow behinds whereas just a couple of years ago it seemed that half the sites were filled with pop ups.

That's because they were all on 40 between Burlington and chapel hill!! I had a heck of a time getting to work this morning. That said I don't miss the traffic in congestion I dealt with when we lived in Cary.

Well *we* will be part of any traffic congestion on I-20 across the top of the state of Louisiana this Saturday!

Going to pick up our BUFFY! All fifteen of the small items are fixed, so we'll head over to pick 'er up, then drag her over to the board walk, park 'er way out in a parking lot then mosey on in to Salt Grass Restaurant for another "mess"*** of prime rib!

Had that at the same restaurant a month ago and ohh emm gee it's nectar of the foodie gods I'm tellin' ya!

Then we'll be draggin' er back home.....ahhhh ready to git out 'n about again!

***mess; enough to get ya "gut sprung" in Cajun lingo

On our drive home on Sunday, we thought traffic was light because most people took the week off and were not headed home on Sunday.

What we did see more of is the dreaded left lane driver. No matter what, they just will not move over, speed up, or let you past. Must be with the holiday, more people driving that normally don't use the highways. Just had to wait for a spot and pass them on the right. With the traffic being lighter, this was an option not normally available.

Today the price for a US Gallon in Canada costs $4.98. We pay $1.40 a litre. Thinking travel in Michigan would be cheaper for us even with travel insurance, currency exchange and less expensive CG fees and food. Our equivalent per litre price is 93 cents.

In all seriousness, my dealer told me that they can't keep up with sales. Seems people have dealt with things long enough, plus banks are starting to ease up on loaning money. They're spending again, I just hope that it's not too fast or too soon.

Same from my dealer. 200 new units this spring, they move on average 10-15/week. Place is always hopping. Showroom to the parts department to service area.

My warranty coordinator told me this morning that THIS is the most frantic work week of the entire year for them. She cited "customers who don't camp regularly/often like we do" suddenly have an urgent request for something to be fixed for the July 4th weekend.

In spite of this holiday crush they stuck to our "we need it back by...date" and we'll be picking it up Saturday, since we are NOT camping this weekend. No how no way.

Have I told y'all lately how awesome our dealer is? /snark

I love Cary roads when it snows. They're the only ones that get plowed/treated. I'm just glad I don't live in Cary...just drive through it to and from work.
