Recommendations - Mid-Atlantic Campground

We just returned from a great, fun camping trip to the beach with friends. We have two daughters, 11 and 14 and the other couple have kids, aged 12 (girl) and 14 (boy). We have vacationed together for the last 6 or 7 years and we always have a great time, but we have decided that we don't need to go to the beach. My feet hit the sand only twice, DH went once, the other parents went once or twice, also. The kids went about 4 times, but they used the pool every day and sometimes twice a day!

With that in mind, we are discussing next years' vacation and would like some recommendations for a weeks worth of fun at a campground with a nice pool or better yet, a water park; FHU; decent WIFI; within an 8-hour drive of Bristol, VA/TN area. This will take up much of TN, KY, VA, GA, OH, NC, western SC and maybe even southern Indiana.

The more stuff for tweens/teens, the better since we, as the parents, really like to sit around and relax with an adult beverage or two (never more than 3) and maybe a day or two of sight-seeing.

Any suggestions?

We like Fall Creek Falls in Tennessee, but you can’t really send kids out to George Hole or down to the falls swimming without adult supervision. And I mean supervision as in being in the water with them yourself.

25 years ago our kids enjoyed Carowinds in NC/SC and King’s Dominion in Virginia. Our family also enjoyed camping and rafting on the New River In WV.

I think you will like Daddy Joe's. I have not been but hear great things about it. It is on my want to go to list. Another place I want to go to is Bethpage camp resort.

7 hours and 40 some minutes (499 miles from Bristol TN) north you can be at Knobels Amusement Park. Check out their website. The park is free admission, pay to ride with an Olympic plus size pool and slide. There is a campground on the edge (it doesn't have sewer) and you can come and go from the park as you please. There are two full hookup campgrounds near by with shuttle service. Lake Glory is owned by Knoebels and is nice. I've no idea how good any of the wifi is.

30 miles away you can tour the Pioneer coal mine. Yuengling Brewery factory tours in Pottsville then on the way back to Knoebels swing around to Heisler's Dairy for fresh ice cream, mini gulf or driving range. Visit the town of Jim Thorpe and take a train ride.

On the way there or back home you can stop at Gettysburg. I do not work for PA tourism. I have a brother up there and enjoy the area.

You might consider Wild Adventures/Splash Island near Valdosta Ga.

Looks like quite a few campgrounds nearby. I've been to the park but not to any of the campgrounds.

We just got back from ACE resort in WV. AWESOME!!! My girls are 8 & 11 and there was also an 8 yr old boy with us. Things to do: Rafting(Upper New or Lower New), waterpark with zip lines and bouncies for all aged kids and adults, beach, outdoor bar at lake, zip lining in the mountains, rock climbing, repelling cliffs, paint ball etc. It was great. RV sites are not plentiful so you need to book a few months in advance. We spent 4 nites and easily could have stayed longer, we did not even touch the hiking or biking trails. I highly recommend it.
