Richmond VA to Orlando

Us and two other families, will be caravanning from VA to Fort Wilderness, Disney, starting Friday afternoon. Anyone travel i95 between here lately and have any knowledge of road conditions, gotcha's, or anything else we would need to know on the way down. We plan on stopping at Savannah KOA Friday night and then finish the trip Saturday morning.

We travel I95 from just north of where I26 joins it by Charleston and there are some rough spots, but generally in good condition. We have started taking the East bypass around Jacksonville as it is a little farther, but not nearly as much traffic or confusing as going straight thru on I95. The bypass takes you completely around the mess. DO NOT TAKE the west bypass, it is rough and also congested.

I came up from FL a couple of weeks ago and didn't see anything unusual. I even stayed on 95 thru JAX and it wasn't bad.

Oh wow. Wish I were you. We're headed down mid-December.

We've had to make multiple trips the last year between Benson and Florence. No problems at all there but the lower part of SC is usually more bumpy and trouble prone it seems.

Doesn't matter. You're still headed to the Fort. Nothing can mess that up.

Well, thank you to those of you who posted... I'll keep my notes on the way down and report once we arrive and when we return. Glad to see Diesel prices are still low!!

Plan your fuel stops. SC can back up if there is an accident with no where to go. Mostly between Florence and Savannah.

Yep! The East bypass is WAY less congested than the West side!!!

The DW and I just returned to Williamsburg from Jacksonville in early June. No significant problems encountered other than a bit of rough road in southern SC, even traffic seemed to be light except in the Jacksonville.

I live in Jacksonville and taking 95 straight through can be a real mess from the Fuller Warren Bridge South through to the 295/95 junction (and then again in reverse when coming home). Lots of construction going on just S of the Fuller Warren. Going around on the East Beltway is the best option in my opinion.

95 in SC. can be rough in spots. Depending what you have. It's a tough go in my 5er. North bound in VA. MM 13 or 18 has a bridge that gets me hopping, also coming into VA. after Skippers there's a rough bridge there. Have safe, fun trip.

Parts of 95 are closed in the overnight hours for bridge repair. I didn't see it but noticed while I was doing some pre trip Planning to Myrtle beach from Pennsylvania.

We just made this trip from Ric to Orlando and back the week of Memorial Day. I agree with the rough spot in VA north bound! Also the east bypass. We stopped for the night about halfway at Summerton, SC right off I95. Hope you have a great trip! BTW - I just happened to find Bill Frederick Park in Orlando - what a great little hidden jewel of a campground!

Sorry just reporting back but just wanted to say 295 east around way the way to go according to some people in our 600 loop. They went west and defined construction and traffic backups. Great ride down, plenty of flying J/Loves/Pilots. Only thing I hate is the one diesel pump at the "regular" pumps. DW has been going in to pay first for the trucker pumps, which fill so fast, feel like I wasn't wasting time!!
600 loop is nice. We have 4 sites in a row. We would do this again that's for sure!! Although we have seen what looks like under 18 driving golf carts, no issues with anyone or the facilities.
We head back Saturday morning and I will say one thing, we will be avoiding 295 in VA around Richmond. One buddy of ours lost a cabinet door on the way down. It was full of bumps and potholes.

To finalize this trip, tire blew in Georgia. Air temp was 97 degrees, who knows how hot the pavement was. Around 68mph in far right lane, minding my own business.
Finished the trip home on the spare and checking tires each time we stopped. Prior to this, we had fueled up in Daytona and did a walk around, feeling the tires.


Now off to get estimate on camper damage and figure out new tires.
