Thanks for the input outlaw. I already booked at the River Plantation. Did you guys go to Gatlinburg or any other places that you would recommend to visit. Travelling with my wife and 17 year old son.

Rich

we spent a day in gatlinburg just walking strip, in and out of museums and shops.....I recommend the muscle car museum on way to pigeon forge from sevierville, if you like muscle cars....we spent a day in the mountains just walking around and photos., there are lots of waterfalls and trails.....I didn't much care for dixie stampede, we went there one evening..wasn't what I was expecting......at least not for the money......the wineries are all good, there are several and the prices are really good........my wife loves going and checking them out.........the ripleys aquarium was nice..if you are going to do all the ripples museums, save money and buy the ticket package....if you like ziplines, whitewater and things like that, they are everywhere....

The camp ground is going to have all these places on the brochure rack.....my wife needs a briefcase for all the ones she grabbed....lol...

Traffic is picking up each day......really bad around 7-9, and then between 15-1700..people working and locals in and out....

one day on the way to gatlinburg, take the skyline bypass around gatlinburg, take your time and stop at pullovers, good view, it will take you around gatlinburg to the visitors center of the National park, on way back you can come into gatlinburg from park....is easy to drive and doesn't take long....

My recommendation is decide what you want to do, get up early and go for it and spend the day doing it...I have been there several times and there is always more to do, cart tracks, shows, museums....trying to do it all at once results in getting tried, rushing from place to place and not enjoying it as much.......one other recommendation is look at the addresses and try to plan stopping with everything on one side of road, and hit the others on the way back...makes driving in PF and Sevierville easier....in gatlinburg, we parked at the premium parking, it is $7 for 12 or 16 hours....it was a block from the harley shop , on left going in....I used it because with a 20 ft dually, parking is limited...there is some free parking if you get there early enough....

all I can say is there is a lot to do, one big recommendation is enjoy what is there, that isn't at home....I think too many people waste time at O'charleys and stuff they can see anywhere....personally I try to do the things I can't at home....I like eating at privately owned local restaurants and if Im going to shop it is an Orvis Shop, antique, cigar shop, something out of norm...

if you cook with cast iron there are two or three of the lodge outlets, the prices were fairly good and if you spend $10 you get a 10 inch skillet for $4.99, they have coupons all over the place....

There is an Orvis Store if you like fly fishing, it is on apple way I believe....The knife works is pretty cool....

Your going to enjoy it, just take a note book and make a list of everything you want to do when you go back....my wife already has her next trip and list made.....lol...

Outlaw, thanks so much for your time and all of the pearls you've thrown at me. I have made a copy of your response and will use your advice in planning the trip. Now I'm really excited about going! And I do like muscle cars. I started driving in 1970 and owned, and threw away, what would today have been probably over a half million bucks worth of cars. But you could buy that car for $1000 then that you would be paying $40,000 for today. Oh, if we only had the insight! I do own a 70 Chevelle SS that I wrench on for fun. Brings me back to the old days when I had hair...lol Thanks again. Happy travels.....

tell me about it.....I started my first a 67 mustang, went to a 71 chevelle, then a 81 celica GT with 22r series engine.....after that I just keep buying, trading, building and so own...not to mention bikes...I just sold two of my custom builds.....and ready for another......guess if I have to throw money away, it is better on vehicles than drugs....

Enjoy, you might want to check Harley Davidson schedule in gatlinburg, there are going to be some bands and other stuff through them...It is Smoky Mountain harley, they have stores at the Kodak(I40 & 66 exit), one in PF and the one in Gatlinburg....the bands are at one of them, I can't remember.....
