Route 95 South to Ocean Lakes Cmpg Myrtle Beach

Okay...Forest River Viper 5th wheel that measures 13'2" HIGH! Best route from 95 South to Myrtle Beach...Ocean Lakes Family Cmpg? We are VERY concerned about lower over passes. We have never traveled to Myrtle Beach...not familiar with the roads. Looks like Route 501 is most direct, but is it good for basically a tractor trailer..LOL! Any help would be appreciated

You will be fine on 501 to myrtle beach. You will probably take 95 to a little town called latte which is hwy 38 which will run you over to 501. Thousands of campers run those roads each year so you will be fine. I'm over 13' with my 5er too

Get ready for traffic! The red light at ocean lakes backs up terribly. The last two miles had taken me an hour before. There is no better way, just be ready if your travelling on a Saturday.

We are ending to Ocean Lakes April 18 for a week and that's the route we take. Traffic starts to get bad around April because of spring break vacations from schools.

We usually end up there about 1130. We come from atlanta so it just ends up that way. However, not sure it gets any better until later afternoon. Maybe 3ish. That's one reason we started staying at myrtle beach travel park. It's north myrtle. NO TRAFFIC. Drive right in.

We go from Emerald Isle to Ocean Lakes several times a year. Next trip Memorial Day. It is actually Hwy 544 that goes straight into Ocean Lakes. Shouldn't be a problem with traffic until Easter. I'm right at 13' and no problems on Hwy17, 31 and 544. Have FUN!

We normally go down mid day Friday arriving around noon in the middle of July and stay until Saturday night usually leave around 6 the next weekend just to miss the traffic.

We've been going to MB (Briarcliffe Resort/Coast to Coast) since 2008. This year will be our first trip with a 5er though. So, now......ya'll got me rethinkin' my usual route. My GPS has always gotten me off in Lumburton, NC on Route 74 and taken me southeast from their on Rt. 41 (narrow & little to no shoulder) to 9 to 22 (I think those are the right Route #'s) which dumps me right on Rt. 17 near both Myrtle Beach Travel Park and Briarcliffe Resort.

From MD/PA border (I81) we usually leave around 3am and arrive around 12n. But, I'm pretty beat by then. Last year we left at 11pm, drove to JR's (exit 97 in NC) and took a 2 1/2 hour snooze in the TT and hit the road again, arriving at around 11am or so. This was better cause I didn't feel like I was going to fall asleep on my feet while setting up.

BTW, the route we take to avoid traffic is; I81 to Rt. 17 (Winchester, Va) to 17/I66 (for about 3 miles) the 17 to I95 in Fredricksburg, Va. There are a few hills near Winchester on Rt. 17 but not long ones. I'll probably do that portion of the trip again and just rethink the lower portion.

Anyway, thanks for bringing it up. Now to plan my routes for a safer trip with the larger 5er.

I have a 43 ft fifth wheel and go the same way with no problem. I get off of 9 and get on highway 31 to the end which drops you off on 544 to 17 right at ocean lakes and lake wood campgrounds. I hope this helps. Have fun and safe travels.

Yes, if 544 is the road I'm thinking of, you go straight through the light and into Ocean Lakes. No need to get backed up trying to make a left turn into the campground.
