Route choice Harrisburg, Pa to New Castle, Pa

Traveling between Harrisburg, Pa to New Castle, Pa on 23/24 June. Good Sam route shows either Turnpike with $27 tolls or from Harrisburg, Pa take US-22 West / US-322 West towards State College. Like the idea of no tolls but wonder what US22/322 driving is like. Pulling a 35 ft V-Cross TT with Ram 2500 diesel.

Toll road 4 1/2 hours, 277 mile, $27 tolls
Non-toll road 5 1/2 hours, 315 mile, extra 4 gal diesel

Anyone know or travel this route towing a trailer? How would the hills/mountains on US22/322 compare to I-80 hills/mountains?

Haven't ran Us22 but have been across Rt322 from Woodland just East of Clearfield to Harrisburg. The hill called 7 mile is Between Philpsburgh and Port Matilda. My choice of route to take would be I 76 from Carlisie to Bedford (rt 99) North to Hollidaysburg (rt 22 to Ebensburg (rt 219) to rt 422 to New Castle.
I drove Semi for 33 years and have gone this route many time's You will have one good pull heading West out of Holidaysburgh put other than that not a bad route.
You will be ending your trip just South of where I live. Here's a link to Google Maps of that route. Happy Trails
