Route thru Savannah to Tybee Is?

Heading to Tybee Island RV resort!

The ramp off US 17 south leads directly onto Oglethorp Ave which crosses
town to Presidents St.

The directions on Rivers End RV park web site say to go north to Bay St, turn
right on Bay and cross town there.

Anyone been there done that lately??

We got lost 2 years ago trying to get from 17 to Bay!
Any reason we can't just cross town on Oglethorp Ave???

We drove that route two months ago. Bay St is just slightly larger than Oglethorpe, and that isn't saying much. You are better off crossing town on Bay.

As a side note, have you been to the RV "resort" on Tybee? We drove through it and felt it was more like a trailer park. I highly recommend Skidaway as an option.

x2 on Skidaway. Nice campground with pull-thru sites. However it is about 45 minutes to the beach.

Thanks! I just called Savannah tourism bureau and they said height restrictions due to trees make Bay st the recommended cross town route.

We have been to Rivers End RV park on Tybee. Yes it's crowded but they have
a nice pool and pretty good shower house.
Some sites are right on the road but others aren't so bad.
We were able to reserve a site we've been on before and it was OK.
AND the biggie-- we can ride our bikes everywhere.
Parking on Tybee is ...... $1.50 or $2 per hour and spots at beach access
points are crowded and the meters are checked frequently.

We'll be biking for most of 6 days minus time spent in Savannah.

We've got a "smaller rig" 25' nose to tail and no slides so we can fit
there reasonably well.

Route thru Savannah to Tybee Is?

Been to Riversend a couple times. Always took RT 204 to Martin Luther south to RT 80. E
Bay is narrow with truck traffic...got to watch your mirror clearance even without the trailer.
Rivers End is convenient to the beach and Savannah. Average campground with an island feel. Short walk to the savannah river beach...little longer along the river beach to the ocean. Like it well enough that I doubt I will stay anywhere else down there.
I've never been more than 10 ft in height.

Thanks David.
I may be over thinking this but we did Bay St last time going and coming
and it IS a white knuckle drive.
Every time I passed a semi I was hoping my mirror wouldn't hit AND my
trailer is only 7 1/2 wide! (Why I like it so much!)

Think I'll give your route a try this time.
It's a few miles further but drive times are almost the same according
to google.

Like so many cities- we like visiting and taking tours where they do the
driving but I hate pulling my trailer thru them. I'm not all that happy when
just driving my truck in some places.
Now if we could bring our little Hundai... that thing can fit down the
narrowest alley and not even slow down!

It's about time for some beach time!!

I drive an 18 and my daily commuter is a Mini Cooper. Best of both worlds. Make sure you make a reservation... they're normally pretty busy this time of year.

Oh yeah, done it already. I wouldn't dream of going to a beach area
in summer without a reservation.
