Savannah, Georgia
I am looking to go on vacation with the family to Savannah Georgia at the end of the month. We plan on touring the city and going to the beach. Does anyone have any recommendations of things to do. Thanks.

City Market Historic Area is the place to start.
Savannah City Market : Index
Also, Tybee Island if you like the beach.

Find any good campgrounds? I'm heading that way soon.
Thanks

I have not found anything yet. I am not looking so much for a resort campground but one with basic ammenities (full hookups). At least electric and water. Has anyone ever stayed at Skidaway Island State Park?

Hey Willis,
Thanks for the tip. I tried to check the web site but it seems to be down right now. I will check back later.

We are looking for a campground near Hilton Head Island for this Fall. Please let us know if you find something near / North of Savannah.

Hardeeville has a KOA that is very clean, easy to get to and a nice place to relax with a pool and lake. We stayed there in November and I will return next trip to Savannah.

Thanks for the tips. I will check them out. It looks like a perfect location (Hardeeville) for Savannah an Hilton Head and both campgrounds look like good options.

Rv park on tybee island
There is a city (TYBEE) owned RV park on Tybee Island by the name of "River's End Campground". It used to be family (private) owned but the city bought it. Made some improvements and is close in to Savanna for sight seeing and shopping. By all means, go to the water front for shopping and sightseeing. Reservations should be made in advance for it is very popular RV campground.
Is a short drive to Hilton Head Island, Beaufort SC. Good for day trips!
I have stayed there several times.

Someone mentioned Beaufort SC...if you are into such a thing, you can visit Parris Island Marine Corps Recruit Depot. I think it's Fridays that they have graduation ceremonies and military parades of the new Marines. Quite impressive and inspiring.
I think there is a military museum there too. If you want to go, I'd recommend looking up the base web site for hours because I'm sure they have security restrictions and specific hours for non-military visitors.

Hello everyone and thanks for the input about the Savannah area. I have been doing some reseearch and found a place on the southwestern edge of Savannah called Red Gate RV Park. Seems to get good reviews. We will try the beach at Tybee Island and go to the waterfront at Savannah. The City Market looks good too. Thanks Again

Hello everyone,
Returned from Savannah and had a good time. Almost melted from the heat though. Stayed at Red Gate Plantation RV Park. It is a small campground with 12 pull through sites. The sites have full hookups with 50 amp service. They will loan you a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter if needed. They have a nice pool and wifi. The campground is right on the outskirts of Savannah, is very nice and the price was excellent. I would call ahead to make reservations even though they were never full.
