Southeast US - Memorial Day Ideas

We live in near Atlanta, GA and are looking for destination recommendations for Memorial Day weekend within 6 +/- hours of here.

Anyone have some neat places you've visited down South?

We are also from the ATL. One of our fav nearby spots is Cloudland Canyon State Park in the northwest corner of the state. Probably full for Mem Day. We camped there 2 times last year, tried for a 3rd but it was full so we stayed at the KOA down the road. Great sightseein all around Chattanooga and the canyon is pretty awesome if you're a hiker.

I'm thinking about going to The Pocket Recreation area and giving dry camping a try.

I've found that these rules are to kick out the stumbling obnoxious drunks. If you keep it cool, not making a racket and pour your drink in a cup rather than have an obvious can or bottle in the open you won't be bothered. It's not like a ranger is going to come along and give you a breathalyzer.

All the state parks in GA are "alcohol free" but it's never stopped me from having a drink.
