Trains???? Not trucks? Hmmm. I've never seen a train track to a Walmart store or the grocery store or your car dealer. Think about it folks. Think about it........

Around here they used to be. Where I work used to be a major junction for the rails. Used to be hundreds of tracks all over the place in our Township. They have slowly pulled them up, made trails, and made places to live where they once stood. While Walmart did not exist 100 ago the world did exist.. All around the rails.

similar to where i grew up. I have seen tracks by a couple of car dealers way back when. Beyond that there are huge parking lots near Chester ,PA that hold cars delivered by train from the factories and ports.

Lots of businesses were served by RR sidings and you can still see them today.

the RR won't come back, Federal rules and regulations make it too expensive.

The gov't has been down on railroads since WWII. The truckers have the gov't's ears, not the railroads. Also air travel. Look at what the gov't pays for air traffic control, etc. The railroads have been left to rot, hence rails to trails.

Railroads were left as the teamster union bought a large portion of DC. My parents would take my brother and I by train to visit mom's sister outside of Chicago by train from PA for the holidays. We younger boys would drive the tractor as soon as our legs would reach the pedals with wood blocks taped to them. We drove other vehicles as soon as we could see over the dash. I had a car to drive to school and odd jobs long before old enough for a license. Had an aunt in Silver Spring MD but not permitted to drive that far so I'd hitch hike to the train station to go to her house,,, only because I found a girl friend there. Things were different growing up in the 50s and early 60s. Many things disappeared along with the trains.
