Stuck in WV for tonight after a blow out :(

Well only took 10 years of the trailer life before we suffered not one but TWO tire issues...

Leaving this morning from Mammoth Cave NP we had a tire on the passenger side go down to 30psi... Pulled over and yep it was flat, no obvious signs of an issue or nails so aired it back up. The valve sensor was barely on so I though maybe it was leaking the air out... Held air and we moved on. As we stopped for lunch it lost all its air again but was FINE when underway. Got out some simple green and sprayed the wheel.. Yep rim is leaking air from one of the welds... Good old China CRAP!

So a quick use of the trailer aid and the tire was swapped out..

SO a quick 15 minutes longer than the planned stop and back on the road.

All was well until about 4 or so when I saw a cloud of rubber and smoke out the DRIVER side. So we get pulled over off the interstate and into a Pilot. I found the rear tire tread separated from the tire taking out my fender well and breaking a nonstructural support to the tire skirting. I cannot see anything else at the moment between truck traffic and rain! ARG! So now I have NO SPARE since the rim failed (thank you FR for cheap crap) and now I have a busted tire and damaged RV.

SO as we sit we called GS Roadside and within an hour they had a two tires and a repair guy on the way to get us fixed up so a win there! $300 for the service but it sure beats being stuck in WV in the middle of no where for who knows how long. Needless to say.. GY Endurance have been ordered while we wait along with a new rim for the busted one!.

Guess I have some work ahead of me before the two rally and the international rally!

On a side note does anyone know where to get the plastic tarp looking stuff to make the repair to that? Sheet metal is easy enough and I might be making field repairs pending if we submit the damage to insurance. And yes a TPMS was running and detected no problems I was actually looking at it and all appeared well until the boom!

Sorry for your loss.
Adds to my concerns.

Just for reference:
How many miles on those tires?
What is your normal traveling top speed?

Had the trailer since November, maybe 3000 miles. Cruising speed was somewhere between 65 or so (on a 70mph interstate with mountains so I am not going for world records).

Oh I am sure there is... I was just happy the tire was in a good enough shape so we could get off the interstate.

Have a friend with TPMS who had the tread totally come off the tire and the TPMS was silent because there was still air in the tire.

Glad you're ok.

The leaking rim didn’t care what kind of tire installed but curious about the brand of the tire that failed? I assume it was one of the notorious China Bombs.

I was at a campground in Colorado last week and saw three brand new Lance trailers. All of them had GY Endurance tires when delivered from the factory. Also saw a new Airstream with the Goodyears installed when delivered. Maybe some manufacturers are starting to do at least something right.

Sorry that happened.

this is probably not what happened to you........ but a week ago we were on our way back from the beach on I73 and saw a trailer tire on another vehicle go out and it was totally shredded by the time he stopped. ?China Bomb ......... who knows, but less than 2 miles ahead there were two other vehicles (a car and suv.) changing their tires as well. In that case I would say road hazard issue. I was sure hoping that one of our 8 tires on the ground was not next. 3 flats on 3 vehicles in 5 miles made me concerned.

That guy with the trailer probably blamed the tires................

Ugh, I am 33 days out from a 4000 plus mile trip on China bombs. Thought about changing them out before trip but that just seems like a $500 insurance policy without having any assurance that new tires would make the trip either. Thorough tire inspection is on my pre-trip list... and a trip to the scales. Sorry you had to experience that Doc. I have the same tires, wheels, and TPMS, so it struck a nerve.

I noticed on my last two trailer the sticker on the trailer referenced a better tire than what was on the trailer.
My 1st trailer I had them send me 4 new tires and rims. My 2nd trailer had the correct tire but tire pressure on the sticker exceeded the tire pressure on the tire.

Yes gs did us well. I hope to have the new tires on by then but I still cannot find a rim before we leave again for a few days. Best I can find is a 15" with a d tire locally ,we have e tires. I do have one local trailer shop I'll try on Monday. The tires stuck for sure.. but the rim is actually the problem.

Yes tire minder. All was reading fine. Even once the tread came off I had just under full pressure (which it alerted to the drop from 80 to 77 psi). Even then it took almost 2 hours for the tire to go flat once we were stopped. So the inner air part of the tire did not fail, the tread just came off.

Have a certified welder fix the rim. Find the leak, mark it, take the tire off and have it welded.

It was actually a nice smooth section of highway coming down a hill when it kept loose. At least if it was something in the road I could write it off.. nope just crappy fr product choice.
