Suggestions for Boston area
Do you have any campground suggestions for 5 nights near Boston - traveling with a 4, 6, 8 year old. Son and family will tent camp next to our motorhome. We hope to tour Boston during the day and keep the munchins entertained at night! Thanks!

Check out Ogunquit Maine. It's not far at all from Boston!

Wife and I stay at Winter Park in Salem while visiting family in Boston, you can catch the trolley there and go about anywhere, lots of history and things to do.

I've heard the KOA in Plymouth is pretty nice. Getting in and out of Boston from there isn't too bad as long as you avoid rush hour. Cape traffic may be an issue if you are going in season.
Some friends recommended Minuteman to us the other day for a lacrosse tournament we are headed to in a couple months at what used to be Fort Devens. You'd be just outside 128 and just about a straight shot down route 2 into town.
KOA would be close to some nice historical sites like Plymouth Plantation which might be fun for the little ones.

If you are going in the summer, Salisbury Sate Park is on the Ocean and as a State Park is very reasonable ( Salisbury Beach State Reservation) and about 40 minutes from Boston.
If you look 30-40 mins or even an hour outside of Boston there will be LOTS of options.
Other than access to Boston, are you looking at other spots to visit or amenities needed or close by?

The Boston KOA in Middleboro is nice too and has public transportation in the immediate area. You have historic Plymouth very close by and also Fall River. There are beaches available. Cape Cod canal and Hyannis are within an hours ride. Would be happy to give additional help if you have questions.

We camped at state park in Hingham. It was great and we took the ferry into Boston two different days and back in the evening. The short trip on the ferry was great and no traffic. It drops you off right in Boston Harbour. The 5 nights at the state park cost us only 85.00! what a deal so close to Boston. We loved it !

Is the ferry close to the State Park where you can walk, or do you need a car.

We stayed at Peters Pond in Sandwich, MA. It's clean and child friendly. Drove our vehicle to local bus stop, left it there for the day. Took bus to Boston, figured let them do the driving. Walked from the bus/train station to the wharf - not that far. Bought tickets for the trolley (it's on/off) to visit the sites. Boston is up/down lots of walking, even using the trolley. There's a visit Boston website that's very useful. It has ticket packages and schedules. Make sure you take good walking shoes and water. Have fun, we sure did.

Wompatuck state park. Hands down.
GREAT state park. Very close to the city, close enough to Cape Cod/Salem etc. We stayed for a week last September and had an absolute blast. What an amazing city and even better surrounding area.

We are staying at Normandy Falls, maybe a little farther out than you want. Has anyone stayed at NF yet?

Normandy Falls or Normandy Farms?? We stay at Normandy Farms and love it! It has everything you would want. the sites are quite nice and a good selection of wooded, field, pull through, back in, etc. It's our favorite. And their "snack bar" is a full service restaurant...lobster dinners caught the same day, hand made pizzas, wraps, farm fresh ice cream. You won't regret it.

Hingham
No the ferry is not walkable from state park in Hingham which by the way is Wompatuck State Park. There is a parking lot where you park for the day for about 3.00.You will not want to drive in Boston! When we left the area to head home we had to drive outside of Boston and it took us over an hour an a half to get out of the area the morning we left.It is a very busy city!
Hope this helps.

Normany Farms Campground
Higher end campground but in Foxboro close to Boston, Providence, the Outlets and most importantly minutes to the Patriots stadium. A bit more rustic would be to head to Bourne Scenic park on the Cape Cod canal which is a beautiful spot. On opposite end of canal is Scussett State Beach and campground. No fires allowed but a really nice spot. Bikes are perfect on the last two as the canal has a 7 mile rec road. Depending on how often you want to head the city is a consideration as this is about a 50 min. drive. Good Luck and enjoy the area.
