Texas Gulf Coast to Maine

Our route will be Texas-- Arkansas-Tenn.-Kentucky-Ohio-Penn.-New York-Vermont-New Hampshire-Maine. Our route and travel time is flexable the only two places we know for sure that we will stop are Crossville, Tenn to take in two days of the US 127 Yard sell and Niagara Falls N. Y. for a few days.

We are open for any suggestions as to the best routes and what to see and visit along the way We are leaving the 1st Aug. and plan to stay in the Maine area till the leaves change color then follow the color down the east coast. And take the southern route back to Texas. Plan on taking 2 an 1/2 months at least on this trip. On travel days we travel 250 to 350 miles so we have time to stop and see the sites and take photos

Hey Billy Bob, maybe our paths will cross somewhere in New England, we are heading out on the 27 AUG for that area. Will go to Nova Scotia first and then back down to follow the leaf change through Maine, NH, Vermont.

Our travel day consist as yours for time and distance. We should be back down in Maine around Sept 20 or so, will take our time as we travel south.

We are doing the same thing. We will be at the Wild Duck Campground, close to Portland, Sept 13,14,15. And, at Smuggler Den, on Bar Harbor, Sept 16,17,18. Maybe we can get together; maybe not.

We are not leaving until Sept 5th from Montgomery, Al. So you never know our paths may pass.

We are leaving Jax, FL on the 27 August for Nova Scotia. Our arrival date is 5 Sept on PEI. will be there until the 9TH then move back to the mainland near the Cabot Trail for 2-3 days. Should be back down into Maine around the 17-20 Sept. Don't know where yet, just play it by ear.

Daisy & Patrick we are leaving tomorrow moring, making stops in E TX., Tenn., Kentucky, Ohio and New York should be in Maine New Hamshire area by 1st of Sept. When we leave N Y we do not have any res. make don't know yet just where nor when we will be that being said it would be nice if we are in the same area to meet up with each other.
We plan a short trip to Canada then follow the leaves as they change color going south.

We are excited about our trip had to lock our old Ford truck in park to keep from leaving tonight.

When in NY the Finger Lake area is a great place to visit. There are several wine routes. The Corning Glass Museum is located at Corning NY. I enjoyed the fall colours in the Mount Washington region of NH. If you like ice cream Ben and Jerry,s factory is located in Waterbury VT.

It sounds like a great trip.

We have traveled the Northeast quite a bit and can offer some suggestions for campgrounds and interesting sights to see.

In Crossville, TN a great place to stay is Cumberland Mountain State Park.

If you plan to go to Niagara Falls and have passports, you can park on the US side and walk across the Rainbow Bridge to see the falls from Canada. It is a lot less hassle than trying to drive across with a camper. When in the Buffalo area, look for Ted's Hot Dogs - a local favorite.

If you are going to the Finger Lakes, a nice base of operations is Chute Park (Watkins Glen, NY)which is a township park located just across the highway from Seneca Lake. It's location lets you walk to many things in town. New York State has many wineries to tour. A nice rainy day option is the Curtis Museum located in Hammonsport, NY.

As you travel across New York State, Route 20 (east - west)is a great alternative to the toll road -NY State Thruway.

Lake George, NY is worth a stop. Take a boat tour as it is very scenic with lots of islands.

Maine has many places to visit. Arcadia National Park is a crown jewel. Allow a minimum of three days there. When in Maine,the local highways are very crowded in season so the Maine Turnpike is your best best when heading north or south.
