Things to check out West of Pittsburgh

So next week the DW is in a work conference in Pburgh. Dare I say I will be staying at a hotel just West and outside the city (Double Tree off 376). Looking for some nice parks around this area (not too far away) for nice walks / trails and maybe some playgrounds for the DD (4 years old). I have been through the city and will probably avoid for the periods the DW is in class. But once she is done we will venture into town. Mostly looking for stuff around the area so we are not cooped up in a hotel room for a week. Thanks.

PS any good BBQ joints or similar food in the area would be great.. And yes I will find a Permanti Bros. gotta love that Pittsburger!

Hi,

You will be fairly close to the national memorial for Flight 93, in Shanksville. Sobering and memorable.

FWIW.
