Topsail Bound

After a few longer trips this season, got the guts to pull the trigger on the biggest trip we have ever done to this point...even counting air travel. 8 days at spot 159. Debating on a few extra days to get down there and back. Keep in mid this is in May 2015 but it still counts.
Already planning the route..thinking of staying in Decatur AL a few days on the way down....Only to eat at Big Bob Gibson's. Holy cow TopSail is an expensive State park! Click image for larger version

Topsail is cheap for all you get. We go several times a year and love it. Hope you have agreat time. This is hands down one of the best parks around.

Topsail

Are the bugs bad there? We were thinking of going in Feb. but have heard that the mosquitoes and no seeums are terrible.

Really not expensive when you compare prices for the nearby resorts and timeshares you can rent!

Bug problems are in summer and maybe a month on either side. Spent 12 years in FL. Hated June thru Sept. High humidity. Camped in Destin several times in cooler months and always ENJOYED the experience! Can't be alone in my thought. State parks are FULL year round! Even in summer, beautiful beaches draw for vacationers! What's a few million no see ums or mosquitoes?! Use bug spray and presto. Tranquility!

I'm right there with you on Destin. We live in SC and see east coast beaches all the time. NOTHING COMPARES TO THE SUGAR WHITE BEACHES AND EMERALD AND BLUE CLEAR WATER OF DESTIN. We stay at Destin West RV Resort and love the location. Destin has it ALL!

Heading to Destin in 15 days for the very first time, but in the car, not the RV. We do plan on scouting Topsail and Henderson Beach for future visits in the RV though!

Destin bound response

Safe travels and enjoy! This time of year it's a little more quiet than summer, but, a fun time to explore. Go into Grayton Beach as well. Check out the large sites and very quiet nights. Very clean bath houses and laundry. Boardwalks over the dunes to the beach, 90% bicycle friendly. Beach is great. 1/4 mile from beach entry is one of the very distinctive hotels, non traditional, old style, highly rated. Beautiful sand dune trails to kick through as well.
We lived in Florida for 10 years ( Jacksonville ) and always rank Destin as one of our favorites. Yes, we have been to most of the beaches. Both coasts and panhandle area.
If our grand kids were not in Atlanta we would be living near one of those beaches in a condo and RV'ing to the others frequently. 😀

We stayed at TopSail for 4 days starting October 1. It was a great time, the weather was almost perfect. We had a day that got warm but the nights cooled off a little. The park is beautiful.

We just spent 5 nights at Henderson Beach State Park over Thanksgiving. We loved it! Each site feels secluded because of the bushes and trees between the sites and a fairly short walk down to the beach. We opened our windows at night and listened to the waves on the beach--no better sound to put you to sleep! We checked out Topsail and Grayton Beach as well. It's a matter of personal choice but we will repeat Henderson!

The Donut Hole is fabulous and we also really love Another Broken Egg. Our favorite coffee stop is Bad Ass Coffee. We've only been home since mid October and already ready to go back.
