Smile TopSail Route Planning-Decatur AL

Even though we are 5 months away from our topsail trip, the weather is crappy so why not try to get a better handle on the trip and where to stay the night or two.

Any recommendations on where to stay in the Decatur AL area? Even though its likely just a stop over but if its nice we might take two nights to break everything up. Also i must eat at Big Bob Gibson's....hence the reason for Decatur.

Thanks.

Stay at Point Mallard park, city run, Cross bridge on 72 meet 31, turn left on Church street NE follow it about 6 miles to Point Mallard point. Good facilities clean.
Check GPS for a path to Gibsons, (white sauce) there are two locations in town.

There is also a KOA. I copied there write up, we stayed there when it was a COE, nice park. Decatur / Wheeler Lake KOA

The inviting waters of Wheeler Lake surround this new KOA, perched on a peninsula and dotted with native trees. The campground makes the most of its enviable setting, with sites overlooking the water, right along the waterfront and tucked among the shade trees. Thanks to the campgrounds own boat ramp, its easy to get out on the lake for a carefree day of fishing, waterskiing or exploring the TVA chain of lakes. A sandy beach welcomes swimmers, and theres plenty of lakeshore for strolling and bird-watching. Decatur offers attractions such as Cooks Natural Science Museum and sightseeing cruises down the Tennessee River. Max pull thru: 75 ft.
