trip to Clear Water Beach, FL in February

Hello all,
I'm new to this forum. My wife and I have a brand new V-Lite 30WIKSS that (we took delivery about 5 weeks ago) we've only camped in once, in our driveway here in central Ohio. We want to tow it to the Clearwater Beach area for a week in February.
Any suggestions on sites, RV parks? I'm sure it will be hard to find a decent spot this time of the year? Any tricks or hints?

Clear Water Beach, FL

Hello all,

I am new to owning a travel trailer (2016 V-Lite 30 WIKSS) as well as camping with it. We may take our first trip in it to visit friends in Clear Water in February. I know it's going to be hard to get a decent spot but was looking for any suggestions from the group?

Kind Regards

Get a list of campgrounds and start phoning. RVParking.com has a good app. Good Sam etc. i would guess pickings are going to be slim to none, but maybe you will get lucky. That is an extremely popular area and doesn't have a lot of campgrounds.

Thanks for the reply lbrjet,

I figured as much. Again, we are so new to all of this.
It's going to be a major learning curve compared to hotels
and resorts!
I love this FR community and love all the willing and helpful

You are correct in stating a place will be difficult to find. Most of the snowbirds reserve early. Specific to Clearwater is the "Clearwater Travel Resort" (727) 791-0550. I don't camp local so can't say anything about it. Reviews say friendly staff, concrete and gravel and all sites are back-in.

There is a nice park near me called Sandy Oaks but it is 70 miles North of Clearwater.
Sandy Oaks RV Resort located in beautiful Beverly Hills Florida part of Citrus County considered the Nature Coast of Florida

You may want to try the app RVPARKY and go from there and also RV Park Reviews website. Good luck and enjoy your stay.

Hello GL1800Rider,

I figured as much. I will look at the site near you and thanks so much
for the info! It would be great to find something a little closer though because of family staying in Clearwater...

Kind Regards

Nearly impossible to find a place Jan - Mar. All snowbirds come then and book for those 3 mos. Most campgrounds have a 3 month min stay months, and a few with 2 month minimum. Most are repeat stays booked when the leave in end of March for next year. All state campgrounds have 2 week max stay and usually stay booked. Only hope for less than 3 months is start checking for cancellations and where people had to leave due to emergency back home. Also lot of rv parks are filling up with park models. In fact some have 80 or 90 percent park models and just handful of rv spaces. Good luck.

Woodalls books are very handy. You can pick them up at AAA locations.

You could also look at Lazy Days camp ground. Just east of Tampa about 35 or 40 miles. Later RJD

Smile Camping in Clearwater

I live here in Clearwater and this time of year most RV Parks are full and rather expensive. We belong to two RV Clubs, Passport America and Good Sam RV Club. Passport America will get you 50% off for one or two nights. Good Sam offers discounts at Good Sam approved RV Parks. The discounts are good for the entire stay in most parks. Both RV Clubs have real nice web sites that will help you locate RV parks by state and by city or area. Suncoast RV Resort in Port Richey is about 25 miles North of Clearwater. I have stayed there and the rates are reasonable. They are usually full in the winter, but try them.

You may want to try the Compass RV Park in St. Augustine, it is on the East Coast just South of Jacksonville. The RV Park is just East of I 95. I was able to stay a week last January on short notice. St. Augustine is the oldest city in America and a great place to visit. Been there many times.

Just left St Augustine a few days ago.
You MIGHT find a place for limited days, but, don't count on it. Seasonal campers reserved a year ago and by April I could not find a decent monthly spot. You might find a weekly. Don't get sticker shock....
Our daughter lives there and fortunately has room for us ( no RV).
Still prefer our own go to RV space...especially if more than a week. Have to kennel pet 😖.
Stagecoach RV, family owned.

But east coast is NOT west coast. Love camping west Florida.

Try this http://www.pinellascounty.org/park/camping.htm
Check next Friday morning before 7am for some spots. Is not going to be easy, sorry. We (RV owners) here in FL are having very diffficult time trying to book a spot during winter.

You can also check the Madeira Beach KOA. only a few miles from Clearwater and less than a mile from Madeira Beach.

Clearwater RV Resort

or

you can use the RV PARKING area at SandKeySP, a whole day, dawn to dusk, is only $5...
you can use the showers, bathrooms, faucets, and a huge beautiful BEACH
then find a big box store or Walmart for overnight

and

Honeymoon Beach SP is also just up the road near DUNEDIN and has RV Parking right on the side of the road/causeway leading into the park - $8 all day parking in at the SP beaches, with also a Pet Friendly beach, and dog washes...
