Clayton Antique Boat Museum, Alexandria Bay Uncle Sam Boat Tours see Singer Castle and Boldt Castle on the boat tour. As to road it depends on where your staying. Not Far from Oswego is Sothwicks Beach. Wellesley Island State Park is in between Clayton and Alexandria Bay and usually has sites open and not far from interstate 81. If you do the Both castle boat tour go early and go to Singer Castle first the 2 will take a whole day. Wellesley Island is one of the Thousand Islands and there is a Nature Center there that is worth seeing. ABay is more touristy than Clayton. To see the most a boat tour is the best way.

Retired, not sure what type of camping you like, but the Adirondacks just east of there in the north country, as it's referred too, is a nice area if your not pressed for time on the return trip. If your interested, just ask.

As said above, and Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake on the way up or back. The leaves will be turning soon and the mountains are beautiful. There are leaf sites to tell you when and where peak color is.

Oswego, ny

Wife and I are at Sunset Rv and Cabins now. Bob and the staff are super. 50a sites, little tight but not bad. Rudy's across the street at the waters edge is a long time fish stand and Central NY staple. Mosquito repellant is a must. Another option is Association Island KOA in Henderson Harbor. Awesome. Salmon Run mall in Watertown is very nice. Gas here is 2.55-2.68, Diesel under 3.00

Terrific scenery views from the top of Whiteface Mountain, Wilmington. Especially in the Fall Leaf Season.

All of the Olympic hoopla in Lake Placid.

There is always a pleasant walk around the Wild Center in Tupper Lake.

Retired - I'm not sure where you are in your travels but..... If it's not too late, try Cedar Point State Park between Clayton and Cape Vincent. Some of the campsites are directly on the St. Lawrence and offer great views of the passing freighter ships. Wellsey Is. state park is also nice, but crossing the Thousand Island bridge to get anywhere is a PITA. If you're heading to Utica next, take a short detour off NYS RT 12 to Old Forge. Very nice park at Old Forge Camping Resort just past town and quaint little shops along main street. You'll probably see white tail deer walking around in the yards of homes! Visit the hardware store on main street - if they don't have it, you don't need it.

$95 a night is outrageous! But as retired said if you are tooling around in a $450K and up rig perhaps you don't care. At that rate I'd sell the rig and start doing the SUV and mom and pop motel thing.

Ya doesn't seem like they want campers there just big rigs. There was a few 5 wheelers think it was 75 a night off the water there was boat docking that boaters used all day and night to walk to food store and beer store next to camp ground .
