Question Upstate SC and Charlotte NC area Campgrounds

Happy Friday! I hope everyone is having a great end to a nice spring week! I see there are quite a few folks here who live in the Upstate area of SC and Charlotte Metro NC area. I'm curious about your favorite nearby spots. I've been searching and I am having a bit of trouble finding places with true pull thru sites. Newbie at backing up such a big rig and would prefer to confine my practice to the storage lot for the time being
Happy Camping!

Hello Morgan, we camp Lake Keowee here in upstate SC. We will spend at least 3 weeks at CrookedCreek RV Park, full hookup and drive thru sites. There are several other campgrounds on Keowee that I would recommend. Happy Camping this season..

We really like Lake Greenwood & always stay in the state park there. They have some pull through sites but it is pretty tight getting in, especially when it's crowded. I'm not sure what length your trailer is but ours is 40+ feet so I'm not too sure that we will attempt Greenwood with it or not. If we want to stay really close, we usually stay at Croft State Park but some of their pull through sites are a little difficult. We just got back from there today & stayed on Site 4, which was a pull through but I don't recommend the site as it was difficult to level & had a small river flowing through it with all the rain we had today!! We also go to Charlotte/Concord a good bit and stay at the KOA in Fort Mill or at Tom Johnson Racing Resort. I hear that Mile Creek in Oconee County is great although we have never been there. We also want to try Devil's Fork at Lake Jocassee. Hope this helps!

2 years ago we spent a week at Cane Creek campground just north of the SC border. It is a county park right on a big lake. There were no pull thru sites in the area where we parked but there may have been some on the other end of the park.
Would be worth a phone call to verify.
We really enjoyed camping there.

Are you looking for a pount to park and tour Charlotte or are you looking for a destination style campground? It makes a difference because if you just want to tour Charlotte then you can stay at the Fort mill koa. It is a bit of an ugly campground but it is safe and it has pull-throughs (except for race weekend then the pull thrus become 2 sites). it is easy in and out from the highway, a Walmart nearby, a blimpies on site, a jumping pillow and a pool (playground had been torn down for some construction when we were there). We stayed for a week. It wasn't great but wasn't horrible. They don't have a fire ring so you might want to bring a fire ring or fire pit (fires are allowed). Lots to do in Charlotte. lots of kids things (my daughters favorite was lazy 5 ranch) and of course tons of NASCAR things to do (DH favorite was either NASCAR hall of fame or Michael waltrip headquarters/race shop tour).

Here is a thread from when I was looking for a place to stay in Charlotte. Hope this helps you some.

Thanks everyone! Right now we are just taking some weekend trips from Greenville. We stayed at Carowind's Camp Wilderness. And this weekend we were at Bear Creek in Asheville. We toured Biltmore(we have not been there in 13 yrs) Next weekend we are thinking of trying Lake Hartwell. But we are going to search around because I like some of your suggestions! Thanks!

No suggestions here, but just imaging camping in the mountains makes me wanna go there!!!! We have family in Hendersonville / Asheville as well as Rockhill, SC just south of Charlotte. When we go to the mountains, we stay in a TT and enjoy the creek and lightening bugs, and homemade ice cream ~~~~ you're making me homesick!!! It's all good ~ so many beautiful places to go! Good Luck finding just the right cg ~ Have a great summer~
