Smile VA and DC campgrounds

We're looking for campgrounds near Monticello and near DC area. Our first time traveling here and looking for other places of interest. Traveling late June.

It is outside of your intended area but Greenbrier State Park in Boonsboro, MD is fantastic, right near Antietam and a short drive to Gettysburg. The sites have power, water is available on the loops, it is a quiet gated park on the West side of South Mountain with easy access to US 40 and I-70.

I like Little Bennett Campground near Germantown. It is off I270 and ten miles from the Shady Grove Metro.

Another vote for Cherry Hill

nice camp grounds. Buses for DC stop at the campgrounds so you don't have to drive in. Lots for kids and adults to do.
Cherry Hill Park is the Closest Campground to Washington, DC :|: Cherry Hill Park

Ditto on Little Bennett campground. Convenient to metro for Dc, Antietam, Gettysburg, Frederick and not far from Baltimore or Annapolis. You would return to a somewhat rural and peaceful area to relax and camp. On the Virginia side I would recommend Pohick Bay.
