Walmarts near Rt95, S. Carolina or Geo.
We're planing our first trip, Md. to Fla., on 1/1/13. Looking for a place to grab 6 hour rest, thinking Walmart but other suggestions appreciated.
Thanks

How many total hours of traveling do you expect for your entire trip? For instance my winter trip consists of about 20 hours total over 2 days. So, I look for an inexpensive place about halfway where I can dewinterize. I've done this a few times and plan on making this a 3 day trip as I don't need to be in a hurry. I've been taking notes over the past several years looking for places as you are talking about and that look safe. I have found a flying J in NC and a flying J near St. Augustine that seem to meet our needs. However, they may be a little noisy at night. I know of an inexpensive (less than $30) place in SC. If you don't receive what you are looking for here, try some other RV forums. On a side note what part of FL are you heading to?

Why don't you just use a state rest stop, most do not let you stay over night but they all will let you rest for 6hrs or so, never had a problem.

We stayed an over nighter in Yemassee SC at the Point South KOA (exit 13, I-95). There was a Hess diesel station across the road, and a Hunt's restaurant for pizza and wings right at the campground office. Best thing was they deliver to your campsite. Oh, they also have a bar in the office complete with beer taps...*s. It was a real easy off\easy on stayover and they had plenty of big rig full hookup pull thru sites(around $45 night).

The Flying J at St Aug is really pretty good. If you park on the side of the lot closest to 95 (counterintuitive) it is really pretty nice. The restaurant is acceptable (Denny's) but fuel has been a little high recently - close to $4.00/gal. If you can, get fuel in GA where you find it for $3.50 - $3.75 then fuel again, when needed in Orlando for about the same price. There are some stations which are less, but if you use the AAA app you can find it some places for $3.45- $3.70 . Also a good spot to stay in GA quick access from 95 called Golden Isle RV. Cost very reasonable, $16.80 (w/tax) using Passport America. Very quiet with a restaurant. A Flying J nearby for fuel w/easy access there and back to 95.
Good trip to you.

We often travel from VA to FL along I-95. We have stopped at "South of the Border" on the NC/SC border. The entire "complex" looks like a throwback from the 60's, but the RV park has full hook ups, is gated, easy on/off Hwy and cheap.
Gotta try it at least once to say you did :-) Kids love it!
