We saw the green flash last night

Wow, I saw my third one and my wife got to see her first green
flash, no less on Valentine day, how cool is that?

We are in Islamorada, Fl and saw it on the back side (bay
side).....so cool.

Who else has seen one and where were you?

I have seen three in my life. One in Key West and 2 while sailing between Tahiti and Hawaii on a 47 ft boat. You need a clean view of the horizon and calm conditions so that the atmosphere splits the last of the suns rays at sunset and the green shows up last as a little FLASH.

Pretty cool

It is the rainbow colors as the sun is coming up and setting on the horizon. I have seen it a couple of times in my life and it is breath taken. The deep emerald green, most often the third color in bow. It is worth getting up and watching, you don't always see it but when you do you will know it and never look at emerald green again without thinking about it.

That's really cool, phelpo. Lucky you to have seen it three times. We make an effort everytime we visit Sanibel but no luck after 15 years of trying

We saw it many times while camping in Key West. I have also seen it a few times in my flying career while flying east over the ocean at sunset.

The "green flash" is the sun shining through deep ocean water at the last instant of light of sunset (at least that was what I was told!). Blink at the wrong time and you will miss it.

That is what I always believed until I read Scott's post.
