Where to camp in Virginia Beach

Being new to camping, can anyone tell me where we can camp in Virginia Beach. We would like to be near the beach for the kids.

LJ Sha,
I am going there in September and staying at the KOA. We are taking 2 of the Harleys to ride some on the coast. It is about 1 or 2 miles from the water. Have not stayed there yet so I can not give any info. It looks nice.

We looked into KOA but the website said my camper was to big and asked that I call. Apparently I could park my 5th wheel but had to park my truck elsewhere and not with the camper because of length. The parking lot was at the end of the street. I would want my truck parked with the 5th wheel.

The beach is a short walk from the campsites at 1st Landing State Park. It is on the bay, not the ocean, though. We were just there last week. May not be greatest for kids, unless they are into nature.

Holiday Inn Travel Park may be a better bet to keep the kids entertained, but it is not on the beach. They have a private parking area 1 block from the beach for their guest. There is also a bike path that goes to the beach.

First Landing State Park is a great spot to camp. We stayed for a week last summer and we're going back next month. We've stayed at the VA Beach KOA and it's ok, but it feels very crowded and it's pretty noisy. If you're looking for a more serene, natural setting, First Landing is awesome.
