Where to stay North of Atlanta in Georgia

Looking for a good place to stay for the winter north of Atlanta in Georgia

30 amp connections

water and sewer

decent facilities

somewhat private sites

gets cell phone service

don't really need anything else we have a small 20' mini lite so small sites are ok could use a good shower area

Does Stone Mountain Park Campground fit those? Might be expensive for a winter.

With all the social / political issues involving Stone Mountain right now I can't suggest it. Those issues may fade with time. Plus it would be expensive...

A couple of questions.... How close do you want to be to Atlanta or other cities? And weather...it does snow here, especially north of Atlanta, and we don't deal with it well...or at all for that matter. When it melts it's over, until then you're stuck! So what is your tolerance level?

Try Twin Lakes RV park , 3300 Shore Drive, Cumming ,Ga. 770-887-4400. This campground is just north of Atlanta off of Georgia Highway 400. Small campground but I believe they have monthly rates, with full ups available And they are convenient to Atlanta.

I second the choice of Twin Lakes. Stayed there last September for a week. Very quiet campground and by the looks of it many rigs parked there looked like they were perhaps winter residences, not transients or summer seasonal. 50 amp with sewer and water, no Wi-Fi last year at least and no cable tv but my antenna picked up like 60 channels. I think they somehow have a cable connection broadcast over the air, if that makes sense. Very friendly family owned.

Not close to cities. We are from Massachusetts so snow isn't an issue for me but I have family near Gainesville so I want to be somewhat near that so I said north not south. An hour or two from Gainesville

Red Top Mountain State Park has some full hookup sites. Lots of wildlife. A very noce park surprisingly near civilization.

McKinney in Acworth is nice. Old Federal in Flowery Branch on Lake Lanier. Probably have limits on how many nights you can stay, tho. Also, they are COE Campgrounds, so if you have Senior Parks Pass, they will be 1/2 price.

I stayed at the Atlanta/Marietta RV Resort over the Christmas Holidays. Pretty nice sites.

I have not used either of these campgrounds yet. But I have ridden and drove around them many times and it is a very nice area. Both are just north of Gainesville and allow easy access to Helen, GA and the North Georgia mountains.

The only potential downside is until the weather turns cold there are a lot of motorcycles in that area. Helen, GA has become a primary destination for local clubs and groups for weekend rides. It will die down after the Octoberfest celebration...

I don't think you can stay at any government run CG's, local, state or federal for more than 2 weeks. If they allowed that they would severely limit the amount of use by more of the public and also compete with the private CG owners who depend on seasonal's for base income.

If you are willing to move every 2 wks and not have sewer hookups, there are beautiful Corps of Engineers Campgrounds in this area. Plus, if you are over 62 and have a Senior Access Pass, your camping fees are half price and you will have an inexpensive winter! Be aware, it gets cold up here too.

I can also vouch for Twin Lakes. If you want to be close to all things urban yet feel like you are in the boonies this is your place. We have grandchildren close by and visit often. Always stay at Twin Lakes. Really like going to our place after a day with family. Russell Pendley is the owner and will treat you well.
I have to chuckle regarding your remark about snowy/cold weather. Mass. has lots of snow removal equipment. Georgia has NONE. When it snows, or worse yet a little ice hits the ground, everything STOPS until it is gone. Traffic becomes one big Demolition Derby.
