Who is still camping?

Wow. Saw several campers and MH's in Va, NC and SC this week. It was 16 degrees F in Va last night. Are these folks headed for Florida or are folks still camping down here?

From what I'm seeing on Facebook groups, a little of both.

Headed out to SC from Orlando on Thursday till Monday after Christmas. Might be chilly, but I can handle it. Always nice to get out for a bit.

We like winter camping. Next week we will be headed to the western part of NC. We like hiking in the cooler temps and love the empty campgrounds and trails!

Ours is winterized, but we will be headed out to SC shortly, just a long weekend getaway. As far as weather, it is what it is, just hope we don't get some freak ice storm during traveling days.

Still Camping!

The very cold temps were an anomaly. Typical temps for my part of NC this time of year are upper 40's to low 50's during the day, 30's at night. Very good camping weather IMHO. Besides it will be 70 on Sunday!

Still living in my Windjammer in the St. Louis area. Staying with it this weekend to keep an eye on it since the temp is supposed to get down to 2 degrees. This rv park is full of travel trailers and fifth wheels from people traveling here to work at the refinery and other places. Only one open spot from a guy pulling out yesterday.

Fifth wheel with enclosed dump valves is in my future. I have to lay on the ground with a heat gun and heat the dump valves to empty my tanks.

Last day of work is Tuesday and I'll pull the trailer home Wednesday. Jan 2 wife and I will pull the trailer down to Florida. Stopping at Chattanooga and then Valdosta to split up the trip.

I have to bring her back in February and then I'll go back by myself until sometime in March. Planning on leaving the windjammer in Florida and using my sunset trail around here and for work next year since it's easier to heat and cool since it's smaller and has a bigger air conditioner. I sure do like the spaciousness of this windjammer for living in though.

I camp everyday, 365. Been a Full Time RVer 20 years last month. Been living in Florida for 11 years now but moved here from Columbus Ohio area. Living in cold areas in winter is challenging to say the least. Don't miss it at all.

Myrtle Beach SC is has become a year round destination for camping. Not unusual to see many camping there year round. Some campgrounds have many largely attended activities even in February there.

We became full-timers in August and are staying put this winter in central Ohio, northwest of Columbus! We are fortunate to be camped on my brother's property and parked across from his garage. We decided that our first year we weren't ready to go far from home on our own, as my husband had a stroke 3 years ago and most of the upkeep falls to me. I'm still learning, but my brother is a good teacher. We have the Pirit heated hoses and extra insulation surrounding the water hookups, and we have shore power, as my brother ran extra lines to hook us up. Our camper has been parked here for two years and we've only stayed weekends until our house sold and we moved. But we have stayed here over Christmas the last two winters and been fine.

My brother built his log home and has been able to help us learn a lot. He had pallets of thick Styrofoam insulation stacked in his basement leftover from when he built his house. We're parked on gravel, but this year, to get ready for our full time living here during the winter, he and my husband covered the ground underneath the camper with them and cut them to fight around like skirting. They filled the cracks with expandable foam. They built a plywood "track" for our dump-tote, with insulated removable panels to get to it. We dump grey and black weekly, and haul the tote in the bucket of his tractor over to his septic tank to dump it. Our furnace motor went out two weeks ago and because of the Styrofoam all set up, we don't want to tear that apart to tow the camper in for furnace work, and we can't find anyone to come out here and work on it. But we've got two new space heaters inside and it's been toasty warm in here even with the 5 degree cold weather we've had all this week. We've got a small heat lamp underneath the camper near the water lines, and I dumped a bit of antifreeze into the toilet and sinks to keep the tanks from freezing up. So far this is working, and it's been the coldest we've ever had to camp in. We'll see how it goes. Next year we plan to go south right after Christmas for a few weeks.

We also have two cats and they are enjoying all the windows and wildlife when they aren't sleeping near the space heater. We look out onto woods on the slideout side, ands the cats love it.

Wish us luck for a smooth process this winter, ok?

That's my kind of favorite weather as well. Supposed to reach 80 today, then a cold front comes thru tonight and it's not supposed to be more than 35 tomorrow. So we are packing up the TT and heading down to the coast where the highs are supposed to be in the 40's with lows in the 30's the days we will be there.

I'm a seasonal camper. In the winter season, I do a lot of desert camping, in the summer season I move to the high country. If there are any in-between seasons, then I camp wherever is most comfortable. Next month, the Hualapai's.

I try to get out at least a week every month through the winter, just because. However, I do try to figure out the weather forecast prior to. Right. Good luck with that!

My camper is on a site for the winter here in CT. No water but that's OK. My uncle and cousin have been up there the last few days. It was 4 degrees and they said the camper was nice and toasty! Can't wait for New Years weekend we will be there for the long weekend.

I live on the NC/SC border and find more and more spending the winter here. Those that want on the ocean have several to choose from. They also get all the tourist trap/attractions. Those looking for a little less hustle should try Ocean Isle Beach. Although only 25 minutes from Myrtle it is only 10 minutes to the beach. Much quieter, less traffic.... choices are about opposites. It is a lot less expensive in this area than FL as well. Winter temps are not much different than the FL panhandle for the most part.
