Yea Im from iowa. They try to act tough but i have never had anyone say anything about my bottle of jack daniels. I really don't think they will ever get campfires ban in the state parks. They know they will lose to much revenue.

State parks in Ohio are dry (no alcohol allowed at a)! A number of years ago we were being quite loud sitting around our roaring campfire with a full cooler of beer next to the fire, bottle of whiskey on the picnic table in plane sight and all the Ranger mentioned to us was to quiet down. They usually do not enforce the alcohol ban unless you are "out of control".

I hope we never see a fire ban in Ohio, that would be BAD.

So far we have only camped at two campgrounds with a fire ban, one being in the Grand Tetons out west (I can understand that one) and the other being Fort Wilderness at Disney. Of course at both places we were so busy sight seeing we never had time for a fire.

Here on Long Island all the county park CG's are dry. They usually dont enforce it unless your getting loud and unruly we just keep it out of sight. I have yet to come across a CG that does not allow "contained" campfires. Like many others who have posted the campfire is one of the best things I look forward to. In fact I bought my cord of campfire wood back in October and it's been stacked sitting in the yard seasoning for this upcoming camp season. You can never bring too much firewood camping.

At all of the Ontario Provincial Parks campfires are permitted
But the Holiday weekends have bans on alcohol; which to me means that if you are quietly sipping a 'beverage' by the campfire you are ok, but any brazenly obvious use is grounds for expulsion from the CG.

I was looking for state parks around our area and I found one in northern Illinois that is "dry." No wonder they had a ton of electric sites available for every weekend of the summer - even holiday weekends. I'm thinking they must have had some major problems at this park with kids/underage drinking. As far as I can tell, it's the only one in our area that is "dry."

Trudinator,

What state park in IL is dry? I'm really surprised to hear that.

Same here in Saskatchewan for campfires and booze. And the ban does not hurt bookings at all. The online site opened at 8am today and was flooded by 801 am. We actually had to use the mobile app to book sites for the long weekend in may and just got in where we wanted.

Okay...looks like I misspoke a bit there. I just looked again and it's not all of the sites at Illinois Beach State Park. Only some of them, which I find quite odd. You can have alcohol on some of them but not on others? Looks like the ones available when I was looking were all alcohol free sites.

If there weren't some people that turn in to loud obnoxious assbags that stay up and loud til wee morning hours...they wouldn't have to have dry camping. I find nothing wrong with quiet drinks around the fire with friends...but I refuse to put up with drunks...just sayin. There are families that camp and should be kept at a family respectful level.

Agreed, but should the rest of us law-abiding folks have to be punished for the actions of a few? Frankly, I'm getting too old to hoot & holler with the youngsters and I consider 11pm "late," but I do like to have some cocktails while sitting around the campfire with family & friends. I've been to private campgrounds (last year in fact) where the trouble makers were kicked out of the campground at 3am by the local sheriff. He then escorted them back in at 10 the next morning to pack up their campers and leave. If more parks started doing this, the "dry" laws wouldn't have to be put in effect.

Dealing with the drunks is the main reason we went and bought into a membership campground and the Resorts of Distinction program. Sure there's a $ cost up front, but these campground have 0 tolerance for drunken loud behavior. In fact at our home campground the 1st act of loud drunkeness will result in a 30 day suspension of camping, a 2nd act suspension of summers camping, and a 3rd act revocation of membership.

We have been to one campground that didn't allow campfires and that was PirateLand in SC, but I am not sure about the other in the same area.

We camp alot in Hershey PA and campfires are allowed however if there has been a lack of rain then they will stop the campfires.

We like campfires alot so if we stay home we have one in the back yard in our 30" ring...........So what is camping with out a campfire.....It's like having a new camper in the driveway with out a tow vehicle That is the relaxing time at the end of the day.

Well, here in the Communist-wealth of PA, all state parks have no alcohol rules in effect at all times, and the fire rules are basically dependent on the rain/wetness quotient of the woods at any given time. Because God-forbid, as responsible adults in the Communist-wealth of PA, that we should be allowed to sit around the campfire and have a beer. It does tick me off that I am constantly being made to be punished for the actions of the 4% of the general population that seem to be unable to police themselves.

Can you tell I've grown up camping in PA and am sick of the state park rules? Let's have a beer!

So pour your beers in glasses...(beer taste better in a glass anyway) then go drink responsibly around your fire and nobody will know the better...if you don't get trashed and loud. Problem solved.
