Wintering + boondocking in Florida?

Has anyone wintered/boondocked in Florida? It looks like there's some national forest around as well as Water Management land that may offer boondocking.

Where have you gone? What have you gone in?

Just looking to see if anyone ends up with any good suggestions on this... no one I know boondocks down here & we would be interested in trying it especially in some of the national forest areas

As far as I can tell- on freecampsites.net and campendium.com, there seem to be a handful of places around the lakes and national forests that have some established boondocking sites.

A lot of it is tent-only camping, so you have to definitely scout it out before committing to the spot with a rig in tow. There are also equestrian spots that you can camp without horses (not sure on etiquette on that or if the horse folks get uppity about it).

I think I got a few comments on a similar post on rv.net's forums but nothing real concrete as to where to go.

I think we'll wing it a bit- have some backup Thousand Trails reservations that I don't mind breaking at the last minute and see if we can't find a few boondocking spots.

Looks like Mortons on the Move has a pretty good article on boondocking locations around Florida:

I would be carefull about remote locations. Florida suffered from a lot of downed trees and high water, the further south you go the worse it gets. Yes all roads are open but there is still cleanup going on. Again, know where you are going. We spent the last mouth outside of Dade City and they are still cleaning up the right of ways on county roads.

We belong to the Escapees Boondocking BOF group and they have a route that they follow and publish on their group site. It is free to join the Boondocking BOF, but you have to be an Escapee member.

A great web site to follow. Cheap RV Living

Heh, I just found/read that post the other day!

I was an Escapees member for a year but haven't been for a couple. What is a "BOF"?
