You can't do it and stay within the payload. I tried to go that route (research only) too but always exceeded payload by at least 2-300 lbs. You need a 2500 (Dodge line-up) minimum for any fifth wheel. Figure with just the hitch (~100lbs), 2 passengers (minus 150lb driver, add 150 lb pasenger) and dry weight (1050lbs), you have 1300 lbs. That's with nothing else in truck or trailer!!

I have to agree. This Jayco will overweight your truck

The bane of almost any half ton truck (with the possible exception of a properly equipped Ecobeast) is the payload. Take your 1310lbs and subtract the total weight of your passengers, truck accessories, hitch and cargo. That amount is what's left for the Pin Weight. A typical king pin weight is 15-25% of GTW. Loading lightly, that trailer will weigh 7,000lbs giving it a pin weight of 1,050 to 1,750lbs.

You answered my question before I asked it

Thanks for the straight talk. I was going to ask on this forum if there were any recommended half-ton/fiver combinations. The Vibe TT I wanted to buy cannot be customized per my needs and I'm giving up on it and the tow-packaged Durango SUV to pull it. Now in search of a fiver instead. Had hoped to buy a half-ton TV but it looks like that's just a flat-out bad idea.

Better safe than sorry. Thanks for the advice. The good news is, there's more three-quarter tons on sale where I live than half-tons
