I did it little bit different. I stubby pencil pin weights and thought I would be close to GVWR with my Chevy 2500hd diesel but first weighing lightly loaded for weekend trip I was within 120 lbs of axle weighs and 800 plus over GVWR with a 5er that dry weight was 9500 lbs. So I upgraded the truck and that was a costly mistake!

The key thing here is recognition that you have a problem and doing something about it. Self Help 101!

Sounds like a 12 step program might be involved.

Tow police

You guys need to go look at the New 2015 and 2016 F150 tow guides they are 600 to 1000 lbs heavier for the ECO boost now. The tow police will now be having a cow for sure.

Idaho Falls to Canadian border

Wife was having a good day so we made the run from Idaho Falls, Id to just north of the Canadian border. Man I-15 was wide open with very light to no traffic all the way. The Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi got 9.6 mpg average for the day with a lot of pretty good climbs here and there.

Ran from Western NY to Knoxville TN. On the limited flat areas we were in the 13mpg range...once we hit the hills it settled in around 11mpg. Never ran over 65mph. The 6.2 and 8 speed were impressive...however the roads via Ohio not so much...The straight 13 hour trip back same feeling...

Glad to see people are out traveling and traveling safe!...

I did what you said and looks like the 2015 and 2016 GVWR went down from previous years. It looks like the curb weight went down also making the payload about the same as previous years.

Past years the HD payload had a 8200 lbs GVWR and now the highest is 7850 for the 2016 model year but again it is a wash since the curb weight decease with the aluminum body. Must be some other limiting factors to not keep the 8200 GVWR in the 2016 model year.

I'm just not seeing a 1,000 lbs increase in payload that you talking about.

I have seen several F150s towing 5ers. The latest at the NC Good Sam rally. All I recall now is the 5er was gray in color and had LITE on the side. I looked at Keystone 5ers for a friend under the 1/2 ton series. The lightest was 27' with a 1290 pin. There were 5 or 5 models with pins under 1500#. He bought a 31' with a pin just under 1500.

Ok, on the subject of a F150 ECOBOOST pulling 5th wheels, remember you need a 6 1/2 ft box your pin weights, your gvwr, there are campers out there that are 1/2 compatible, now here's the sticky part, when buying the F150 ecoboost there are only 2 ply tires on the pull vechile and they are not rated for the weights!!!
When we purchased our F150 I put on 10 ply tires on, also to help with the ride I put air bags under rear suspension.
I also when pulling our 5th wheel use the johny bar (brake controller) to help slow the vechile down, it makes logical sense, why wear out truck brakes.
Most important if you don't feel comfortable with your tow vechile choose or step up to F250 or 350.
